I'm yet to make any more measurements on the stock 14s. Yesturday I bought a pair of R32 calipers and I'll be picking them up on Thursday and ordering DBA rotors and everything else I'll need then. Things are slowing down with the silly season so I expect it to be around mid January when I get it all fitted. After that I'll be starting on the back.

Sorry to take so long to answer this one, been busy with the conversion. They are cast as part of the hub/spindle.

DBA Part No. for the discs? Did you get the slotted or vanilla (standard)?

Hilux Surf RN130 are also a 6 stud. I nearly bought these the other day.

On the note of the DBA P/N, I'll post it on Thursday when I go to my local Auto1 shop to order them. I'd do it earlier but 9hrs of work and 1hr of driving each way chews up the day pretty well. Thursday's my first day of holidays.

I am just noting that no one has mentioned master cylinder bore size. Maybe a few surgestions to match the brakes. I surgest a 15/16" master cyl with the LN106 HiLux 4wd brakes. But I am using a 13/16" which is only borderline acceptable, a bit soft.

Ok. I picked up the callipers this morning from All State Auto Imports for $250.

The rotors haven't been ordered yet but the DBA P/N for slotted is DBA 909SL/R. I'm gonna use Bendex (spelling) ultimates for pads. P/N is DB1170ULT. These were sourced thorugh Auto1 for between $400 & $450. The rotors weren't ordered 'cause the Auto1's still getting prices from their suppliers. So far RBA rotors are @$230 for a pair, a fair bit cheaper then the DBAs at @$190 each but another supplier has the DBAs for only a little bit mor the then the RBAs. They're checking their prices to confirm that the price is current.

Takai, can you confirm that your rebuild kit was for a LN130 Hilux and only cost $30?? The Auto1 supplier wants $100 for R32 calliper rebuild kits.

I have the booster and master cylinder from a JZA70 halfcut, would this be big enough??

Thats all I got for now. More after Christmas when all my parts turn up

The JZA70 may have a 1" master cylinder (check the actual item for markings). Yes this is plenty big enough. Generaly, a 1" master is a larger size good for bigger brakes, best suited for single piston brakes with a 66mm piston, or 4 spot brakes with 45mm pistons.

The 4 spot brakes from a LN106 or LN167 4WD HiLux have pistons about 42.84mm in diameter. And the master cylinder used is 15/16" = 23.81mm.

This gives a area ratio of 6.47/1 = area of brake piston (x2 for 4 spot) / area of master.

That's the correct set. However your pricing seems to be a bit on the high side. Have you done a ring around for prices? I rang one supplier who quoted me $120 each and I am checking with my local Supercheap Auto later this morning.

Same source as the rotors quoted me $94 for a full set - left and right pairs.

The Ultimates have two characterstics which you may want to consider before using them.

Firstly, they are more a race pad, and therefore are highly abrasive and will eat your slotted rotors very quickly if you are keen on "spirited driving", as they say.

Secondly, as a result of the above, they create a massive amount of brake dust, and if you have allow wheels, especially white ones, they will discolour very quickly. You would need to wash them down almost every other day.

Remember, these comments are particularly true if you drive hard.

You might want to conside Bendix pads in their standard range. They are good pads but the Ultimates heat up quickly and work best when they stay hot.

I use them on my race car so I have a full year's competition experience with them. They lasted all year but I lost over 1mm off my rotors in six race meetings.

$100 for the genuine Nissan rebuild kit is a good price. But the set Takai sourced is probably exactly the same just not for or from Nissan specifically.

Keep in mind that when sourcing the master cylinder from a vehicle that the size (diameter) of the booster on the donor vehicle will need to also be of comparable size on the recipient vehicle if you want a similar feel/effort at the pedal (assuming all other things are the same etc).

The Hiluxs tend to have a large booster from what I have seen so the vacuum assistance should be adequate for a 1" master cylinder and 4 pot calipers.

Calipers are different, one assumes better. You can use the 296mm rotor and gtr caliper where you previously had the 280mm disc and caliper (gtst/z32), as the diameter difference is made up for in the caliper, not in the mounting as far as i'm aware.

I'm using the 280mm setup on r31 struts in my ke20.

The price was for the pair of rotors and the pads. The first supplier that Auto1 called had the DBAs for $170ea and the RDA supplier I think was $210 for the pair. They later called a second DBA supplier that had the DBAs for only a bit more then the RDAs. It sounds like some of the Auto1 suppliers are overcharging. I've also got a pretty bad memory so I might have gotten some of the costs mixed up.

I went with the Ultimates 'cause I plan on starting racing next year. I'm going to start with drag then hopefully go track by mid year when the suspension's been done. I'm not to conserned with dust as the pads I use at the moment with the standard brakes leave a lot of dust as well as the roads I drive to work are very dirty so I'm washing the car weekly as it is.

Hey infotechplus, just wondering how your brake upgrade went. I've got all my parts for the front brakes now and am ready to get the discs machined.

The brake upgrade is on the list but I haven't reached that far down the list. I did, however, decide that I would buy new slotted DBA rotors rather than use the original 2nd hand non-slotted ones.
