Won't you need to get the brakes done to get it registered?

probably not.. commercial vehicle.. was already rated to carry a tonne in the back, and tow another tonne behind it.. i had to brake test my ute, i recon it would have passed with the stockies with reasonable pads.

My engine passed the engineering with a set of slotted Hilux rotors, braided lines, race grade pads and race grade fluid. QLD Transport doesn't do any further testing, they just need to see the mod plate and engineers report.

I never really understood the need for upgraded brakes for engineering unless you were adding/redistributing a LOT of weight. From the same speed ie speed limit it shouldn't matter how much power the new motor has, the stopping distance should be the same (unless the above mentioned weight issue is involved).

Having said that I'll be doing the brakes pre engineering so that it can get included on the report.

The front brakes are now on hold until after easter. I rebuilt one caliper no worries but on the second one I had one of the bolts that holds the caliper together snap. Lubing it up and heating didn't help. Easy outs couldn't get the broken bolt out. So unless someone has a suggestion I'll probably be buying another LH caliper.

there's a bloke down here that calls himself the "bolt doctor" or something like that.. charges a fee to remove snapped bolts and alike.. maybe there's someone up there?

allmtr: the ADR requires repeated stops from 100 - i think it was about 10.. now if the car gets there faster, the brakes have less time to cool etc.

but at the same time the stock hilux brakes are larger then most cars, and designed to pull up 3+tonnes gross.

Slotted rotors and better pads should be enough, but if your going to do track work, the bigger brakes will definitely help.

FFS, if I can stretch the chassis & change brakes, why not change the wheels/tyres/GVM?

So if you can hook me up with how to & with whom pls.

    Thanks

Just a quick note on brake conversions, QLD engineers want to see a solid piece of metal for spacing the calipers.

I'll go hunting for a "Bolt doctor" after Easter.

    Thanks guys

erm, YN57 SR5 doesn't need commercially rated tyres... only the NON SR5 ones have it.
