Most likely the secondary vacuum diaphragm is shagged, either replace it, or do what most ppl do and wire it up to the primary so you have a mechanical secondary. it will apparently go harder like this also.Originally Posted by hosking1991
Sagluren, i am unsure of what the problem is. Is it not opening, or is it not closing? and is it an electric choke. Pics mite help?
hosking... as hash smoker sed... wire it up to the primary to make it a manual secondary. I now get 6krpm out of mine

To get your Carby running smoothly take it a place like Ultra Tune at Capalba and have it tuned up on the dyno for mixtures. I had a RA 23 with an 81 carby and had it rebuilt and tuned it on the dyno and it never ever gave me problems. Gut your air pump as alot of the rattles are probably the magnetic stuff coming loose. Also look out for the metal emission mushrooms as they become brittle as they age and cause vacumn leaks. $40 spent tuning will save alot of fuel trust me.![]()
only $40? hmmm mite havta go check that out!Originally Posted by Mundoolun
$40?? Last time I got a price from Ultra Tune, they wanted $110 just to play with the carby and set timing/dwell. That didnt include any dyno... just a tune by ear.

yea unltra tune wanted $150 but i think walking in with my work garb (midas) they really wernt to helpfull.
ummm the problem with my carb is that the choke just dosent do anything, all linkages are free and moving and you can set up the choke manually but when you accelerate the choke turns off.
i know people have adapted manual chokes to the carb but that would require another hole in my dash that i dont really want.
thanks

The choke opens when u accelerate due to the vacuum created. it means the choke assembly isnt holding the choke closed when cool. try pulling the choke housing off and turning the bimetallic mechanism inside so that when cold, it is holding the choke valve closed.Originally Posted by Sagluren
the elecrtic, thanks hash, i will try that later on today,

ok some success i think, after some more investigation i found that the bio spring was very nearly not connected to the choke leaver, so i readjusted and set it up again, and it ran on some sort of choke possibly, with more invistigation i found that the idle screw ( i prusume it is) when set so it ildes at around 1000rpm hitts a choke lever and therefore the engine dies. i am uncertain if the choke works and i need to massage the levers or if i jsut had the idle up so much so the choke lever was free and that was why it was running cold and not becuase the choke works.
thanks in advance
