what insert would i need if i am using xt130 strut and the Otomoto coilover kit on my TA22 for a nice ride height?

just wondering what others might have done for their ta22's ?

will the sw20's be ok ?

    Hi,

yup, that's what I'm running in my 28. I am currently a fly shit too low but can probably raise it about 3-4 inches.

    Hi,

the shocks were kyb agx's, from ebay us. They cost me about 280 US to my door. Yes i cut about 50mm out of the struts from memory, i just followed everything that is on this thread. You should sorta be able to see that i can still go higher or lower with em

    ebay link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-Rea...Q5fAccessories

Just ask q's on postage for the shock before you buy. There was one mob that had about 2 or 3 seperate auctions running at the same time with variation in postage from 70 to 198. They took about 10 days to get there.

    Hi,

nfi to be honest. All i can say is that they are very stiff in thge front even with the 1jz up there. My justification in getting the kyb agx's was i was getting them from the states cheaper than what i could get excel g's here. So as far as i was concerned i was getting something better for less

    Hi,

also something to note, the gland nut had a different thread on it to the one that went with the actual strut tube so i had to get the old one machined out to suit the new strut insert. I believe that some of the tubes have the fine thread and some have the coarse, mine had the fine thread. Machining wasn't an issue as i have a mate that is a machinist!

ohk thats fair enough i might do some parts shopping on thursday and see what i can pick up locally before shopping online!

So rear sw20 inserts are the way to go hopefully my xt130, ra60 disc, mx62 calliper and HSD coilover upgrade should come together nicely !!

If i have a chance i will put up some pics when im done

    thank again!

So is it best to use the standard height sw20 KYB AGX's or i have heard talk of using sw20 short stroke shocks, which one suits best?

one last question! sorryy i just wanna be sure

does the strut need to be shortened? will it affect the ta22 if it isnt? can it still be lowered to something like the ride height in the picture above?

If it doesnt need to be shortened will the sw20 shocker still be appropriate with say a spacer? or is their an alternative with a longer body?

    thanks heaps!

    Hi,

the sw20 strut insert is used because it is a short stroke shock (remember, mr2's are a short car) The strut probably doesn't need to be shortened to get that ride height, but for the best travel from the shock you will probably want to cut some out of the tube. Remember if the spring seat is sitting lower on the strut tube, then more of the shock shaft will be inside the shockie itself, so when you hit a bump it can't travel in as far. Make sense? I think where mine is sitting is has at least 3-4 inches of travel up and down. With those shocks and those springs i doubt it'd ever travel that far unless nothing was hitting the ground!

Also, if you're cutting the strut tube DOUBLE CHECK IT AGAINST THE STRUT INSERT. My insert measured 10mm LONGER than the ones that people had measured and when i cut the 50mm out (i think it was 50) it ended up being absolutely perfect and didn't need a spacer. Though if i'd decided to cut an extra 10 out then i was screwed. I didn't have the inserts at the time and cut based on everyone elses measurement.

    Hi Croatianator,

I am getting this exact same mod as well and and the best way is indeed to shorten the strut tube. I am getting mine done for me by Dimitri. You ought to check his link on AE86DC forums:
