    Hi

Has anyone used SW20 Rear KYB excel G's in this setup? Just bought some for mine and they have turned out too long for my struts

I have heard you can use them in the XT130 struts but I havent tested it.
3TGTE might be old but it can still hammer along.

Yeah...does anyone know the original length of the XT130 strut tube?

I use kei office sw20 rears in my setup and had to shorten the struts and add a spacer.

If you need even shorter struts than the SW20s then you can use AE92 inserts. Looking back im pretty sure those were shortened by 30mm.

    Dimensions here:
    AE86
    Body length: 402mm
    Extended length: 604mm
    Extended minus Body: 202mm
    Outside Diameter: 43.5mm

    AE92:
    Body length: 336mm
    Extended length: 500mm
    Extended minus Body: 164mm
    Outside Diameter: 43.5mm

    Celica T/RA63
    Body length: 405mm
Extended length: 605mm (3dr hatch maybe shorter then this)
    Extended minus Body: 200mm
    Outside Diameter: 43.5mm
    Shaft diameter: 22mm

    Corolla KE35:
    Body length: 414mm
    Extended length: 613mm
    Extended minus Body: 199mm
    Outside Diameter: 38mm

    Corona TT132
    Body length: 403mm
    Extended length: 600mm
    Extended minus Body: 197mm
    Outside Diameter: 43.5mm

    Tokico HTS
    Body length: 332mm
    Extended length: 476mm
    Extended minus Body: 144mm
    Outside Diameter: 43.5mm

    SW20 MR2 Rear
    Body length:360 mm
    compressed length: 370mm
    extended length: 542mm (stroke 172mm)

    Thanks soooo much Takai.
The SW20's were about 10mm too long. Currently thinking of cutting the top off the strut at the new weld and welding a new top on long enough for the SW20 shock
    OR
welding a new top on to give the strut a total length of 390mm (equivalent to 50mm out of the original strut from what I've read) and spacing the SW20 shock up to match.

I dug around for the spacer which i was running in that shock, which was 40mm long, which should mean that they were shortened by 30mm by all the calculations.
    I was running a Tokico HTS102

Hey bud, is this because the shock retaining nut is different?

I used SW20 shocks in shortened RT132/XT130 struts without a problem, had to find the correct gland nut, but had them laying around.

    cheers Chuck.

may have been covered but i got sick of reading... anyone know how id go about doing a similar coilover setup for an mx83 cressida? i have a set of rears but was wondering what shocks would suit in a bigger car like that with stiff (between 8-10kg) springs... any help appreciated!
    cheers tim

Why not just buy some off the shelf height adjustable front coilovers (Tein, JIC, HKS, etc) to suit MX83?

You can do exactly the same coilover conversion as described in this thread with an mx83. Takai put MX83 struts in his ma61 supra and coilovered them using the otomoto coilover kit; http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...=50795&page=10 He has the shock he used written in there somewhere.

    Dumb question time.

What holds the brake pads in the LN106 callipers?? They just seem to slide straight in the tops of the callipers without anything holding them in except for that thin wire clip?? Does the brake pressure stop them from coming out?

I'm used to undoing an end bolt on a calliper and opening half of it up to get the pads in...but the Hilux callipers seem to be very different???

    Hi,

isn't there a steel pin (4mm diam) that goes through them on the top of the caliper, and that is held in place by a small spring/pin? Going by memory now, been a while.....

there should be two steel pins one on top and bottom that hold the pads inplace. then the wire is there to hold the pins in place and hold the pads away from the rotors to try and eliminate brake drag...
i would not drive with out these pins in place if yours are missing a trip to the wrecking yard should get you some more, or you may be able to buy some new items from brake stores or toyota...
