Looks like ill be buying some Koni racing inserts for my RA28.

Big thanks to the guys from Toperformance for talking with me on the phone for ~30mins.

The Koni racing inserts are of the 8611 series.
Separate compression and rebound adjustments, and have a very large range of adjustment.
Short stroke of course, and the body is ~60mm shorter than normal length inserts.

They are nice inserts, its just a pity that the adjustment is on the bottom so you have to pull them out to change compression.

Actually, it wont be as difficult as removing the whole insert.

Ill drill a hole in the bottom of the strut tube to get access to the screw while its separated from the steering knuckle (if thats what you call it).
So to get at it, itll be a simple matter of just removing the two bolts.

    Nope.
The Toperformance guy did mention the commodore inserts (8611-1261Sport) which would work, but they are ~$650ea.

The ones ill probably order are the 8611-1259Race which are ~$450ea.
    Body length - 332mm
    Full extended length - 540mm
    Full compressed length - 387mm
    = 153mm stroke.

Im not sure where the full lengths are measured to though... the hat seat or the top.

youll be playing with spacers in the struts and setting stuff up for a while.
stroke is good but the body is heaps short.
    but they're cheap.

Thats ok, i can handle spending time setting them up.
Should be a good compromise between more expensive units and the MR2 rears.

Does anyone have any of these parts for sale at all. I want to do a front brake upgrade on my TA22 very soon. Or does anyone have a complete setup or complete different brake upgrade for the TA22
    Thanks

is the only reason the dust sheilds are ditched that they foul on the calipers? or do they foul on the disc as well?

i dont think ther actually required but i can tell you that without them if you drive the car in the wet they can be very useful as it stops the disc cooling off as much and lets the pads bite better.

nathan trimmed the covers to suit the caliper and it makes the conversion alot nicer.

    cheers

I cut a larger part out of my dust shields to fit the larger calipers and I had to do some minor panel beating as a small raised section on each shield was rubbing on the rotor. 10 seconds with a hammer fixed it nicely. I don't think they are required for RWC, but I would not bet a slab on that. For 5 minutes work all up, better to keep them on for that "standard OEM" look that keeps the law happy....

yeah i know they are not required but i want to keep them anyway. i have already cut away enough to allow for the calipers, i was just unsure of the situation with the discs.
