you dont use the ra40 tie rod end because its a poor fit. yes it 'fits' but the taper isnt the same.

yes, the TS magna balljoint is a FRACTION bigger than the ae86 BJ where it presses in, but you can get it in if you either grind a taper at the edge at the bottom (would not compromise the BJ whatsoever) or if you put the BJ in the freezer and heat up the LCA.

Do you happen to know what kind of camber you end up with, with the ae86 control arm?

TA-022 - using standard stuff will probably be a problem too. S13 standard spring perches are huge and unlikely to fit in your strut towers (at least in an AE86). So either custom perches or coilovers are required.

I'd love to have some more fitment photos, but other priorities (such as staying employed and fixing my folks' van) have moved to the fore.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.

I'm tossing up doing S13 into RA28 and would like to have a go, I'm tossing up ATM as to weather I'll get the cheapest nastiest Coilovers I can find for testing, or committing to the cause by purchasing good units and "making" it work.

Yeah i'm in this same mindset.

I think maybe use standard S13 gear, but remove the spring and perch. You don't really need those for testing.

it is the control arm/balljoint area that most the testing will be done on i imagine.

Yeah... I guess you are going to require the S13 hub/brakes and stuff, so finding a set of stock uprights may well be a good starting point. Then swap the standard strut up right for a Coilover at a later date.

How many S13 front cuts are you likely to find in Aust?

There would be heaps of datus halfcuts and stuff, alot of import places will have stuff like that. If you just on nissansilvia.com you could post up a wanted ad, just remember how many people would upgrade there brakes and suspension. Plenty of 4 stud hubs get thrown out along with the pissy brakes. If anyone is local (qld sunshine coast) i can get hold of some stock struts no worries, pm me. Although im tempted to get it for my self for a later day project

i have all the parts ready to go and as soon as i put it all in ive been planning on writing an in depth tech article. the only thing holding me back right now is the shock inserts in my coilovers, i have cusco coilovers with inserts that have a 300mm body length. the only inserts that length are koni's @ $500 EACH. i could use the inserts that are in them but they were noisy on the previous car, and are to suite a 9kg/mm spring, i plan to use somewhere around the 3.5kg/mm mark.

in regards to the camber when using standard arms, i did a quick trial fitting on my ae71 rolla, but that was with standard balljoint, i only bolted it in on one side just to check how it sat. with the camber plates set to zero i have prob 1 degree maybe of pos camber, i moved it all the way to neg and i had a bit of neg camber. on top of this my camber plates can be unbolted and bolted back together kinda 'offset' allowing for even more camber adjustment.
so anyway, with the bits roughly bolted together withthe standard length arm, suitable camber can be achieved, and just by looking at it, i didnt lose much if any front track.
