Sorry to re-hash an old thread but I was just told about this did a search and bam. I've already brought my shockproof which also sucks. Going by the fact that my box would be at least 90,000 odd k old. Would redline be ok in its slightly worn condition? No real problems with it but I want a smother shift for the shortshifter that'll be going in.

Anyone still running the shockproof? how is it? I've also heard running a 3/4 shockproof, 1/4 other oils is the way to go... any help, comments, crits??

...I've been running Redline lightweight shockproof for about 18months, I then switched to Redline Heavyweight and have been using that for the last 12-18months. This is in a 2000 model WRX though so am not sure how that translates to a Toyota! During this time using Redline I have done 20+ track days and the box performed great the whole time.

I plan on using it in my AE86 once its ready and I'll see how it goes in that

i would hazzard a guess that there are more people running red line light weight in their R154's then there that arn't.

Doesnt matter how old the box is, it will work. its good stuff. Ive done 2 oil changes with the stuff now, the box is 145,000 kms old and still fairly happy.

im using pennzoil something or other, ill get a proper spec for it, but from memory its 75/80.

shifts are good, a little notchy but very easy to snap shifts and chirp tyres, so i suppose its not too bad.

im doing a full coolant/engine oil flush in the next two weeks (paranoid import engine damage prevention) so ill whack in some VMX80 then and see what difference it makes.

i can understand how this thread could confuse people. but personally i think its a load of crap and still stand by the stuff. its one of, if not the best oil you could put in your R154.

agreed, my gearbox has been getting easier to shift as time goes on. Any other oil and i can barely select a gear.

That would entirely depend on whether your LSD needs LSD oil.

Brass Synchos require a GL4 base Oil, so Redline MTL or the others 70W/90, 75W/90, 80W/140 would be fine.

If Toyota recommends GL5 base Oil then Redline 75W/90NS or 75W/140NS should be used in the Gearbox ONLY. Unless you have a FWD style G/Box with an Open-Differential.

The Redline website also states that "SuperLight ShockProof" & "LightWeight ShockProof" is >
(not recommended for most syncro-type transmissions)
