Default So I killed the cressy - now what.

7M decided it no longer wanted to operate on the way home this morning, and it now resembles a diesel tractor under load and spews out a lovely veil of steaming coolant (accompanied by the equally joyful aroma of boilt coolant) after about 5 mins of driving.

I'm not 100% sure exactly what is wrong with it, but one things for sure, it is reasonably fucked.

My question is to anyone who has recently done it, how much does it cost to whack a 1J in a cressy these days, drive in drive out styles? I want to know a few examples of what people have paid/been quoted so I can work out if it's feasible or not.

Sure I could probably chuck a reco 7M in there but if the engines coming out I might as well replace it with something good. Either that or it finds a new home as a donor shell for a similar project (or scrap metal )

    I've seen people quote 8-10k drive in-out?

I think that 4k + engine price seems more reasonable though.

$4K, that must include a fair bit of do it yourself action?

    Yes it would.

I got very lucky and picked up the necessary parts for ridiculously cheap. So my conversion cost a little under $3000 all up. The only work that was outsourced was the exhaust. The intercooler and piping are stock jzx81 items. Add extra if you need to buy an aftermarket cooler.

I think 4k is what would cost for a Front cut, so you get nearly all the parts you need, then you have to pay somebody to put it in, do all the wiring etc.

So pretty much it'll cost more than the car will ever be worth, got it
