10-30 and 5-30 is really thin as fuck
HPR 15 is 15/60 and the HPR 10 is 10/50i wouldnt go thinner than that especially wif da terbo
i switched from magnatec to HPR15 a while back and found there was an increase of about 10psi of oil pressure in nearly all operating conditions.Originally Posted by JustCallMeOrlando

my oil pressure is sweet
on the supra dunno how it's measured but at startup it's at 4 idle it's at 2 and driving at 5
Previous Rides: JZA80, GA70 GT, RA63 GT x2, TA61 GT, TA63.
But is more oil pressure good?
wouldn't this put more stress on potentially weak engine internals?
sorry if that sounds noob as. LOL

More pressure without changing anything else but oil means the oil is more viscous. Or, maybe the magnatec is actually magnetic - as they claim...
More viscous means less flow, but it stays where it should longer... Comprimise as always...
meh...
OH OK,
So the HPR15 "stayed where it should" longer than the Magnatec, hence the extra
oil psi? Might give this a go.
The other thing that is missing from the "spec" sheet is the Gearbox oil, what is the
best stuff to use here in the W58 5-speed? Castrol, Penrite, etc?
My box is a bit notchy, so I was thinking of putting in some lucas oil stabilisor in the box
aswell. Does this stuff work?

You'd expect that from a 15w60 oil though...I've toyed with the idea, but I've had no issues with Magnatec so I think I'll stick with it.Originally Posted by brett_celicacoupe

my old man used to run a dyno shop when magnatec first hit the shelves, and the castrol rep gave them a bottle to try on the bosses pajero (their test mule) so they drained the oil out, and whacked the magnatec in, and ran it on the dyno, and there was a definate 4Kw gain... no shit...Originally Posted by love ke70
however you may take from this that the magnatec = thinner = less restriction = less protection.
joke amongst mechanics at the time was that if magnatec is soo good at clinging to engine parts... how do you drain the oil?

the HPR isnt "too thick" so to speak, as it doesnt limit pressure til around 4500. when cold it hits the pressure limit at about 2200
thats around 60 psi with my new oil pump and relief valve on the 1g.
the more pressure the less likely bearing damage is, to a certain extent.

To much presure can be just as bad as not enough though!
My car runs about 80-90 psi whilst driving when hot on 5w-30!

yep, thats fucked lol
i thought you fixed that problem?
and yes, too much pressure will strip the soft metal off your bearings

got some plugs for the 1ggte today.
toyota part number PQ20R (P for Platinum). the good news is the price is well under $10 , for me anyway. i think this is cheaper then the platinum NGKs![]()
also, for future reference, the oil filter for the 1G series is 90915YZZD2. again, they are damn cheap.
i changed my plugs and cleaned the dizzy rotor and cap. cleaned the leads etc.
the car hits boost much harder i can now say it was breaking down under load before fitting the new plugs and cleaning things
