    Default wich bellhousing fits what`?

    Hi

Im a but confused with gearboxes and the bellhousings.

is there possible to make a W50 gearbox fit a M serie engine with cheanging the bellhousing? or what about the 2L engine`?

If not, what is the gearbox i will need to use, without have do to a lot of modification, to replace my 18R with a M serie engine, or most preferibly a 2LT engine?

    Thanks in advance

The best gearbox to use would be a W58, which you can find with an M series bellhousing in a MkII Supra or non-turbo MkIII Supra. You can also find a W50 bellhousing to suit an M series engine in a MkI Supra and various older Crowns and Cressidas, but they're hard to come by these days. The W58 is a better box anyway.

MarkIIRx12, to answer your first question, YES you can fit a W50 to an M series engine, just use the existing W40 bellhousing, and bolt the box to it.

I did this back in 1979, used an RA23 Celica 5 speed (W50) into a MS65 Crown, with the 4M engine.

But it all changes to what Norbie said, if you are converting from Auto to Manual.

    cheers Chuck.

    Hi again

    Thanks for your answers

I have a steel box W51 (i think) that comes out of a carina diesel with 1C engine, i also have the old W40 bellhousing, as a matter of fact im using this now for a 5spd trans in my markII.

But, the R serie bellhousing wont fit the M series will it? The R serie wont fit the L either right? i always thought L and M uses the same bellhousing, or am i totally lost?

To put it another way, what bellhousing can i use on my W51 steelbox to make the 2lt engine fit?

Of course the w58 would be the best option, but im assuming this box has some diffrences from my old box, and i dont want to mess too much with my car, like cutting new shifter holes etc, so the best solution would be if i can use my w51.

If i would go auto, then all thoose old trans is just mix and match isnt it? the gearboxes is all the same, just diffrent bellhousings, correct?

If i can use bellhousing from a ln55 on my box, what year is ln55, and does it matter if its 2 or 4wd to get the bellhousing from it?

Again, thanks for all ur answers

I believe its the 1C bellhousing that also bolts to the S series motor. Also the 1 and 2S, there are minor mods needed which are covered in pretty good detail on this and on the old forums.
