Wideband O2 sensors, a few questions.

MWP: I take it you have the stock 0-1v setting for the o2 sensor on the microtech and that is why you say it is pretty useless? Can upgrade it to 0-5v for $100. I will be doing this with mine as I really like it for datalogging. Easier to read when all on the one graph I reckon.

Yeah, its 0-1V at the moment on the Microtech, and it is useless as the readings are too inaccurate... as you would expect.

Next time i have the dash apart ill pull the Microtech out of the car and take it apart.
Odds are itll be quite easy to change a few components to have it reading 0-5v.

The other problem is that the Microtech software is complete crap.
Its logging functions are pretty useless with the max log length of 500 (IIRC) samples.
With this you can only log short runs, not a complete drive, race, etc.

The LogWorks3 software however, is very good and has a plugin API that allows sending the software extra data.
When i get some free time, my aim is to write an app that will get the Microtech RS232 serial data, and send it to the LogWorks software.

Sorry what is this API? So you want to be able to run your laptop with no additional wires and fot the logworks software to pick up the data from the microtech rs232 cable. That would be pretty sweet. So short term you could just splice into the necessary wires for it to log rpm, map, tps and afr right?

This lc1 seems too damn cheap. May as well get one of them instead of the jaycar as I am shit and building those things

Yet another problem with Microtech's is the slow rate at which they report data.

API = application programming interface.

Plug both the LC1 and Microtech serial data lines into the Laptop.
Run Logworks, then run my software which gets data from the Microtech and sends it to Logworks.
Then youll have all the data (WB02, rpm, inj time, ign, etc) in Logworks which you can then record, graph, etc, etc.

Splice to what?
The LC1 doesnt have any aux inputs for doing this.
This is what the Innovate DL-32 (and similar) is for.

And the LC1 is proven, known to be accurate, etc, etc.
With the Jaycar unit you wont really know its correct unless you can compare readings to another WB02.

They daisy-chain.
You plug the LC1 serial out into the DL32 serial in, then the DL32 serial out to the laptop.
Logworks will then read data from both.

i paid $260 delivered for the LC-1 only in april '08 from a supraforums group buy but the killer was paying $259 delivered for the XD-16 gauge a month later from ebay. which was by far the cheapest at the time.

I originally planned on not having a gauge and just using the LC-1 when tuning (when hooked up to the datalogit) but after i realised you cant turn the LC-1 off, it has to be always powered and hence using its life up I decided to make the most of it and get a gauge, which wasnt going to hurt keeping an eye on things.

Chris be careful there are 2 gauges, average ones with slow response (DB) and the awesome ones with fast response and lots of flashing lights (XD-16)

XD-16 aren't effected by ground offset either. More accurate faster responding.
