whiztl and any body else that uses a LSU.4.2 they have a very short life span as i used 2 in 12 months on my race car just for lambda settings ,i have since gone over to a NTK wide band sensor and so far have lasted 18 months and is going all of the time ,but my set up uses a preheat so it take about 3 min to heat up but thats ok as it takes about 5 min to warm the motor up any way

I've actually never had a sensor fail in 3-4 years, and I've always run Bosch except for one NTK. I've collected half a dozen spare LSU's because I was told to expect them to fail... but that's yet to happen.

LSU's were actually used on the VE Alloytec V6 (before they changed to narrowband for cost reasons) and given the k's they do without failure, general durability isn't an issue. I beleive that early failures are application related - whether that be thermal or physical shock, overheating, condensation (mounting at 10-2pm isn't a sure way to avoid this), or leaded/race fuels.

NTK sensors have a larger chamber volume which is more resiliant to heat, but also makes them a bit slower. Perhaps your issue could be heat related Glen?

the NTK was double the price of the lsu.4.2 and im not using leaded at all. also this NTK is much faster reading than the lsu and the sensor is in the same posi and we also have 1 in the exhaust at the back to double check every time its been tuned on the dyno
ps i vote for I 2 software its fantastic much better than the old data log motec interpeter 2,9 software

That's weird! By design, I can't see any way that the NTK design can be faster. Can you recall which sensor it was? I'll have to check it out, maybe they've changed design.
