Default What After market ecu 4AGZE

hey everyone, was wondering what ecu is best for under $1100 for the afm dli 4agze, basically all i want is it rather tunable e.g fuel air etc and the engine to be reliable, no crazy launch control needed, is a daily. =) thanks

Adaptronic. That is all. Incredibly happy with the service from them, and it has all the features of much higher end ecus...and it can self-tune, so is great for fuel economy (my economy went from 10L/100km to 13 when I put an EMS on my car

The adaptronic came with the car, you can work on probably $800 ontop of the cost of the unit to have it installed and tuned...

Definitely recommend Adaptronic, can get you hooked up with one fitted and tuned for $2100 for anybody in Brisbane.
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.

personally for $1100 i wouldnt bother upgrading ecu.
Unless you want to have to keep your foot on the accelerater in the mornings to warm it up because a cheap ecu dosent usually have the capabilty to conrtol the toyota idle motor.

All i fit now is haltech, fair enough the are more expensive but after wiring up many different ecu's its like comparing apple to oranges.

    Just my opinion.

I'm running stock, but my 4AGZE will be running a Haltech. It's what I'm putting in the next door neighbours 5.2L Stroked Jeep Cherokee.

doesnt usually, but the adaptronic does along with a lot more options.

in this case cheap does not equal nasty

There doesn't seem to be much love for the mega squirt on these forums, I'm interested to hear why that is from people who have used it as well as other aftermarket ECU's. it seems to be around 1/3 the price of most other ECUs and HEAPS more information and the convenience of DIY tuning at home.

so what do people not use them?

For the same reasons as turbo KE20, I wouldn't put a microtech on there unless it's a race-only car, doubly so for a GZE, which is extremely sensitive to idle control (because of the length of the inlet manifold) and the supercharger switching, which can make the ECU stutter as it switches on/off. Also the act of switching the SC be annoying, especially with limited outputs (like the microtech). In the end I had to use two outputs on my EMS, one switched on at 3500 rpm (so the SC wasn't switching at high speed/flicking on and off through a corner) and one which switched on at less than 30% vacuum. This was as close as I could get to the factory setting without adding a delay circuit (like the factory ECU).

Not having proper idle control is a real pain, especially on this engine. To get it to idle cold at 700rpm, it'll be doing 1500+rpm when it's warm, especially on a warm day.

Adaptronic can handle all these things, so I'd happily choose one...if I'd known of them when I did my MR2 I would have taken one, no question.

Regarding tuning, get in touch with adaptronic, see who they've used in your area before. If there isn't anyone, call around, any decent tuner should be able to tune it, but if you wire in a wideband 02 sensor, it should almost tune itself, especially if you can get a base map from a 4AGE...
