    in australia, the 22re's are all late style mechanically.. being pistons are flat top, exhaust ports are pear shaped etc. Atleast as far as i've seen in celicas/coronas.. unsure about the hilux's.

    Additional: Early 22r's (if you were to look) share a lot of similarities with the 21R-C. Quickest way to tell is by the cam cover. Early ones are rounded and late have a sharp edge around them.

    Early 22R and all 20R pistons use a compression height similar to that of the 18R, therefore, they are usable with 18R crank and rods.
    22R pistons are 92mm bore standard (2.2ish litres in an 18RG)
    20R pistons are 88.5mm bore standard.

    22R early pistons are available in forged 92.5mm (.020"OS) with a 24.7cc dome (about same as 9.7:1 18RG piston) from Wiseco.
    Here are the engine specs for using those pistons.

    18R-G block, crank, rods
    22R (1981-1984) Wiseco forged pistons (92.5mm) K509M925 (457grams)
    rings 3642xc

    Displacement 2150cc
    Head volume = 72cc
    Head gasket = 93mm bore custom 1.5mm (ACL- eagle hill can organise this for you)
    Bore = 92.5mm
    Stroke = 80mm
    deck clearance = 0.55mm

    Compression ratio (before valve relieving) = ~ 9.8:1

    22R late pistons are to be used with 22R crank and rods of around the 138mm mark (18R).
    These will give a compression ratio of 8.1 for flat tops. (dome tops appear to not be available)

    Here's a nice easy option as far as getting pistons goes.

    http://www.escort-jp.com/piston/toyota_c.html

    They're cast, but with current exchange rates they'd work out to about $630 AUS.

    Those 2TG 2L ones might even be worth thinking about for use with a 22R crank, the bore and compression height is correct, I just don't know how close the valve layout is between 2Tg and 18RG.

    Were they customs?

    I only found a few 92mm pistons on their site and wasn't too sure about the dome/dish on them. 92.5 is the largest I've heard of in an 18RG and that was rebuilding an engine that had already been taken out to 92mm before.

    You'd be wanting to chase up some with a 20R/ early22R compression height (38.95-39mm) and a dome volume of at least 24.7cc to 9.7:1 in 18RG without having valve reliefs put in.

    Definately check those details with them before ordering, 'cause I doubt you could get a refund for ordering the wrong product.

    My current build (2.2L) is using 202 flat top pistons with teflon buttons and valve reliefs. Not sure how much compression I'm running with this setup though (I'd love to know).

    Pretty sure these are the ones I've got in there....pistons

    hey im doin this build right now the only reason i am using these pistons is cause i dont have 1000 to spend on 18rg pistons

    but yer anyway im a bit worried that i have cosen the wrong pistions

    the ones you guys are talking about do they like have a ring on the top then go down in the middle? i tryed to find some that look like the 18rg pistion but the ones i have just look like they go up then have a mass whole in the middle

    is this the right piston ??

    Have you got a side on view the top view doesn't show much. I think your going to have issues with valve clearance. Are they 22r.

    yer there 22r pistons ill try get a side pic

    also im getting an engeneer to build the engine and he is going to do the valve cut outs into the piston
    he also did the maths and the comp ratio is going to be close to standed the only gain i will get is with going to 2.2L

    So they have the 24.7+ dome i tried using them for my turbo conversion but when i went to get the fly cut he tested them them for thickness and they become to thin but yours might be different mine were wiseco.

    yer these ones are just standed replacement pistons he tested them to and said there is plenty of meat there

    do you still have you pistons or did you end up useing them??
