    Default tps calibration

    Hey guys,

After some advice re TPS calibration.

    Auto 1jz.

When I put the TPS onto the throttle body the 2 prongs that line up are at 12 oclock and 6 oclock. However, the mounting points are no where near the bolt holes. So you have to turn the TPS around to get it to the bolt holes.

However, at the other side the throttle cable is extrememly loose until about 30% throttle when it is like this.

So how am I supposed to get it right?

    Thanks

    Chris

first thing to do is get the throttle cable tight to get the throttle right. if its like that you may not be getting full throttle.

once you have done that then you can calibrate the TPS. there should be a factory reading for closed and WOT. you will need a multimeter to do this.

it also helps to have the manual so you can get the right readings. it will tell you to probe to wires from the TPS, measuring the voltage at idle. i think its something like 4.7v.

then with the throttle fully open it should read close to 0v.

NOTE: i may have it the wrong way around, someone please advise.

I tried using the JZA80 2JZ-GTE (TRC) values to set my TPS up (JZZ30 1JZ, no TRC) and it made the engine die when you come to a stop! It wouldn't idle!

If you do find the 1JZ settings it would be interesting for me to see if they are the same as the JZA80 2JZ-GTE ones!

    Cheers

    Hi,
What are you guys actually doing?
The only thing I have ever seen in any toyota literature is setting the idle switch (IDL) position to set the "zero" point. Two size feeler gauges are used against the stop screw to open the throttle a certain amount and in one position the idle switch should still be closed, in the other it should be open (using a continuity meter).
Is there a link somewhere to the 0 - 5V cal literature?
BTW, the troubleshooting values are not appropriate for calibration - they are only a check to make sure the readings are correct, but they will not necessarily provide an accurate calibration.

Ok the actual calibration part is not a problem as I have a microtech so it is calubrated through there.

What I need to know is why the throttle is about 30% open when I get the TPS into a bolt in position? I would have thought it would be very close to 0% and then you use the throttle stop bolts to open it up a tiny bit.

The combination of information in your posts is a bit confusing

First things first, are you using the same TPS that you pulled off the engine? In the photo in your build up thread the TPS is pointing straight down. Are you sure you're not using the TRC TPS by mistake?

The only TPS I've ever changed lined up pretty much where it was supposed to be. I can't imagine any reason why you would be experiencing what you are if you're using all of the appropriate factory components.

Also, why are you using the throttle stop to open it up? Is that for idle?

yes I am using stock TPS. Also tried a spare one which turned out the same way.

I know it WAS facing down before but for some reason doesn't want to do that now?

Use throttle stop as no ISCV.

Make sure you're fitting the TB properly. I've only seen like Mos, setting with the IDL to be as soon as you crack the throttle then adjusting the stop...

what do you mean "properly"? It was functioning fine before I put it on but I didn't check where the tabs were for the TPS then.

I know it opens and closes fully. What else is there to do?

More so lines up with the butterfly properly, senor dickhead here managed to put it on without the butterflies lined up with the sensor properly, causing the throttle to be jammed open
