ive used weld ones in circuit engines with no problems, but i have also had a couple fail!
1j atmo will work wont they? i thought they where interchangable!
Iam looking to extract about 225kw from my 2jzge (100hp per liter) to push my MkII Supra down the qtr in the 13 sec bracket, for this cams will be involved.
So far I haven't been able to find any ge billets, only gte billets and I would rather keep the dizzy if possible, which runs off the exhaust cam.
So my question is what are the pros and cons of welding up the cam lobes ?
I would rather use new billets but I just cant find any. If welding them up is just as good then I have no problem doing this apart from wanting to keep the originals for resale.
Any experience on this anyone ?

Although you said you'd like to keep your dizzy, I think it would be complicating things. To get 225kW from a 2JZGE you're going to need to eek kw's everywhere you can, and you're also going to need a new ECU. I'd be getting some GTE billets, rigging up a crank angle sensor and running wasted spark or direct fire ignition and using the programmable ECU to run the show.

Clive Camshafts in Melbourne will do 2JZ billets. Im pretty sure they have done them before for Dave (gianttomato). Good pricing anyway though.

I was worried someone would say they has seen a failure.Originally Posted by kingmick
I don't know much about the 1j atmo ones but Id be surprised if they would be agressive enough.
ECU is no prob, I'll be using MSII. I don't think it will do more than 2 coils at the moment, but I believe it will soon, probably before I need it I guess.Originally Posted by JustCallMeFrank
I have definately thought about loosing the dizzy, its just that its moving even further away from its original set up and that means more $$.
Does the gte head bolt on to the ge block, maybee I should have bought a gte without the turbos and gone from there, besides the gte does look better![]()

i ment there might be other billets off the shelf for atmo 1j etc!
I wouldn't worry about losing the original setup, NA power isn't cheap and requires some lateral thinking![]()

Yes, true true ...Originally Posted by JustCallMeFrank
I guess the other reason Id like to stick with the dizzy is that I know them, unlike waste spark or CoP setups, but I am expecting to learn plenty from this. Maybe I should simply accept the fact I won't be able to use a dizzy and get on with it![]()

Also interested in the weld vs billet argument, um anyone know whether Clive cams does billets for the 7m.
If in doubt power out
Price is also going to play a roll in this equation I guess. When I priced my cams I could get two sets of weldups for the price of one set of billets - so weld up it is!
Yes but most welds are limited in the profile of the came or lift they can getOriginally Posted by Youngy
, so whilst more expensive you can get a much more aggressive camshaft if you get billets.

I have has a set of regrinds fail in the 4age thats in the rally car, but when they were cryo treated once fixed, i havnt had any problems since., (it also might have had something to do with the oil pump failure at the time now i think about it)
ben.
Do turbo cams fit? If so there's some fairly lumpy HKS jobs available on ebay for $440 US per cam here:

Not being a JZ man I'm not 100% sure if it's the same, but in a 7M the CAS runs off the exhaust cam in the same way the dizzy in a 7MGE does, ergo you can fit cams from either motor in either motor (or fit a dizzy to a GTE if you so desired or vice versa)Originally Posted by Enchanter
