Default Welding a MA61 LSD Diff up

I have a MA61 with a 1JZ installed, at the moment the car slides going right and open wheels going left which is terrible. My plan was to weld the spider gears together (not me someone who knows what there doing) problem is everyone i've talk to hasn't done it and the people who have don't want to do it (illegal Pfft) Can it be done with the diff centre still inside the diff or does it have to be taken out to be welded up
I'm in the Sunshine Coast QLD if anyone knows how to and more importantly whats to make a quid

    It depends.

Firstly you SHOULD have an lsd already if the diff hasn't been changed from factory. You won't be able to weld the center in that (the LSD) easily. In that case I suggest that you either get a new LSD (torsen ) or get your LSD reshimmed (or buy and open center diff to weld up).

Secondly if it turns out that you do have an open diff, (or you decide to go and buy and open diff to weld up) there should be buckets load of room to get the old 'CIG' in there to make the locker....

I'd suggest the LSD option myself

    Cheers

It 100percent has a LSD in it. How much does a replacement centre cost (roughly)
Basically i'm asking what kind of costs are involved if i go re-shimming or replacement

definately LSD if you have the cash. but if you do weld, you can weld it still in the car. dont just weld the side gears to the pinion gears, weld the gears t othe housing aswell. i had the side gears welded to the pinion gears and the pinion gears shit themselves.

    above is right!
Buttocks i take it you have never driven a welded diff car? there not the best in the wet.
there is a good reason they are illegal.
just get an lsd and you will be happy, i havnt used a locker on the track for many many years as a good lsd leaves a locker for dead.

I have driven a few locked diff cars before so i'm not to worried about drivability, more about Cost

a locked diff will make it more likely to step out in the wet but id say its a bit more predictable and more controlable.

re-shimming an LSD involves taking the diff to a diff specialist. it can be done at home but im guessing if you need to ask you probably cant do it anyway. thats not an attack on you or anything, they are just a bit of mucking around.

I do most of my own shit, just never had to do a diff before. If its a similar diff design to a S13 R200 Diff it won't be a problem

Thats the toyota supra workshop manual, pull it down, measure it all up, buy fatter shims, put it back together, do skids

Some careful measurement and guesswork should give you a tighter than factory spec lsd.

If it is and lsd it will look like the above link...

I can't see anyway on earth that you can weld that with it in the diff casing!
