you could come around and measure mine.

just chasing the dimensions of the v160 box from the front of the 'bellhousing' to the x-member mounts,,, mid point on the x-member between the fr/rr holes would be fine

Hmmm, sounds like someone wants to go down the 6-speed 1UZ path.
My Getrag is still sitting on my garage floor so if you haven't got a response by late tonight I can get the measurements for you.

nah, not going to 6sp it - but i know what clearance issues a guy had when mounting a 1uz in his jza80 with a v160, and am trying to roughly calculate where my gearbox will sit using a custom w58 bellhousing from nz...
if you could measure it norbie, that would be great - im trying to avoid greg so i dont have to hear about his relationship woes

OT here but are you going to run a W58 behind a modified 1UZ? in a JZA80?

IMO the W58 will be fine provided he doesn't use a big clutch with harsh engagement. And going by one of his other threads, he's planning to do exactly that. RIP W58.
Regardless of the strength issue, the Getrag is the way to go. A closely-spaced set of ratios is a good thing to have behind a highly-tuned NA engine, wouldn't you say? It's not such a big deal in a car like mine - the sequential turbos mean it has mountains of torque to pull you through each gear, but I can't see the 1UZ having such a fat mid-range.

nah norbie, im not going a harsh clutch, just trying to explore the feasable mechanical options - ie what physically is possible and available. certainly not planning an OS Giken twin ceramic plate or anythingOriginally Posted by Norbie
most likely will be a full face 240mm organic clutch with an ass-load of claping force. smooth take up but simply wont slip
getrag or some other option will come once ive detonated enough w58s to realise they dont work. realistically, i think the w58 will hold up ok. dont forget - for the price of a getrag and associated bit i could get myself a fairly hefty set of custom gears for the w58 too![]()

you lose
I'm changing my oil tomorrow, so I'll measure it for you then.
you want from front of b/h to where? mid way between the 2 pairs of xmember bolts?
basically, yup![]()

Sorry, got held up by a certain JZA61 with a busted diff (no not mine thankfully).
Anyway, front of bellhousing to centre of front-most crossmember bolt = ~580mm.

ach! bollox - looks like the w58 with jz bellhousing and alloy gbox x-member is the same length...
...which means the 1uz on the uzz30 mounts will sit 20mm too forwards to mate with the box...
cheers
