My SC14 AW11 is a gutless piece of junk without the SC enabled (I'd guess 50hp fly or something) its _slow_ but I imagine a MAP ZE would be a better esp. with the better comp and smaller ports.
lol my aw11 with 9.4 compression is a gutlless piece of shit without the s/c!!
    like 52 hp!

Dude, are you kidding? A bigport 4AGE should do better than that ATW on an AW11! My old 89 n/a was a ripper for an n/a car.

The SC AW11 is screwed without the SC because :-
    a) All air entering the engine effectively goes through a restrictor (bypass) which is smaller than a 10c piece in diameter (though some air can leak past the SC lobes, and they usually freewheel a bit above a certain throttle opening) and
    b) its only 8:1 compression!
    c) The manifold is useless for n/a operation, with all runners being at different angles and lengths.
    d) ports are too big for optimum low speed torque

It's not made to run well in n/a mode except to have enough grunt to let the car cruise at 100kph without the SC activating.

    Cheers, Nick

The clearnace on the lobes is nothing. The tiniest bit of crap could be causing it to lock up. So check it already. In saying that, real small stuff will just grind away teflon.

To add to what other people have said about running it N/A - yes just disconnect the wiring to the clutch. ALSO - run a new vac reference to the ABV.

The reason i would do this is coz the ABV is actuated by vacuum, but the vac line to it has a solenoid valve in it which is controlled by the ECU. The ECU will close the ABV by closing the solenoid valve under load etc...

This is not favorable for you, so run a straight vac line, that way twill always be under vac (open).

I actually did this for my 1G-GZE (with a restrictor in the vac line) so that the valve closes under boost, and stays closed - ie. it doesnt open at high revs to "vent overboost" - ghey!
    meh...

As a side note, I unplugged my SC for the trip home from work yesterday as it was making one hell of a loud rattle/vibration/scraping noise for the trip in...

I actually found the car to not be as bad as you guys made it out to be... sure it's nowhere near as ballsy and I had to downshift into 3rd to go up some big hills... but on the whole I found it still quite driveable... the noise disappeared confirming that it definately was the supercharger, though at higher revs I could hear it slightly as the rotors were likely free spinning...

stopped the car halfway home and plugger charger back in... noise gone... i guess it will return soon then... must have been fate as it allowed me to dispose of a ford focus with big white racing stripes down its bonnet/roof etc and loud exhaust
