    Default 4agze supercharger belt prob??

i seem to hav problem after problem with my GZE,
last nite i heard a belt squeel then no power obiviously the charger belt snapped, i checked it and yes that was the prob lucky i was almost home so the car didnt overheat from lack of waterpump!!
checked all the pullys and nothing had seised
today put on a new belt and started her up all fine was watching closely then gave it a little rev and SNAP!! another belt straight in half no slip just snap.
all the pullys still fine and i thought maybe the charger had seized but it doesnt engage if your reving in a stand still position rite?? im just confused!!

If you give the car a decent rev you can engage it. Is it possible your SC is seized? So your motor would run fine without the SC engaged, but when you rev it and the SC engages the SC drive pulley would lock. Trying spinning the centre of the pulley by hand with the engine off. See if you can turn the lobes.

The SC can engage when you free rev the motor. If it's a mr2, you can try to turn the X shaped bit in the middle by hand. If it's a later model, you'll need to remove the 4 phillips head screws which hold the cover on before you can try to turn the supercharger.

yeah i thinks its the charger,, put another belt on really lose just so i could see what was goin on.
fine then i rev it a little and shit the loudest squeel
and a little smoke from the supercharger pully so i guess its rooted! it shits me coz i havnt even given it a hard time..
other prob i hav is i need the car running as im working the snow for the season only to get there but dont really need when im there,, what are ppl thoughts on just by passing the charger and running a water pump crank pully belt??
i realise the car wont hav much power at all would it actually be bad for the engine?? i cant see it being any harm.
im planning the turbo conversion when i get back so just dont wana fork out money on the charger thats all!!
    thanks ppl...

i dont think you would have a problem running the engine without the s/c, however i think it might be difficult to tension a smaller belt without it.

yeah its gonna be close but i might just be able to do it.. otherwise what bout taking off the outer wheel of the charger then running the belt on the outside of the idler pully?? picking up the small belt in the morning so i will see how it goes! just wanted to know if it would damage the engine running without the charger,, couldnt see why it would in theory it should be better coz of it having less stress(no boost)

My SC14 AW11 is a gutless piece of junk without the SC enabled (I'd guess 50hp fly or something) its _slow_ but I imagine a MAP ZE would be a better esp. with the better comp and smaller ports.

Just pull the cover off the front of the pulley. You can drive it without the 'charger, but as people have said it will be gutless. If you unplug the charger it should work.

If you want to run without the SC, just rig it so the ECU signal to the clutch doesn't get there. Saves messing around with smaller belts and stuff. If you pull the plug off the SC, does it stay on permanently, or off? I assume off...

Hey, good idea Well, that solves the immediate problem anyways, at least he can drive it to the snow and back, even if it is a little on the boring side (who needs power on ice anyways ) I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say that it's the SC, it sure sounds like the obvious option.
