I have also been playing with tps switches lately. I have a 7mgte, it uses the same part number tps as the 4age, I had a lot of trouble with my tps and in the end pulled it apart to see what was going on. It ended up being poor solder joints where the joining pins are connected to the circuit board.
I ended up making one from two, from memory the other one I used for parts was from a camry.

ok, i tried re-settting it, this time I set the change over at about 0.38mm. ok its better when slow speed. I don't hit the change over as much, but coming on and off the throttle its sooo rough, she has a huge jump.

and the one one that really baffles me is the hesitation at mid range. it really feels like fuel getting cut on and off. No matter what setting i have tried on the TPS its there. BUT it goes away when the TPS is unplugged.

I might have a look at my spare TPS for what pete mentioned about the joints.

From this information, I would guess that removing the TPS has the
effect of showing the ECU a permanently open IDL switch. Thus, there
is no changeover from RUN to IDLE settings, and therefore, no jumping.
You could try setting the TPS so the IDL switch never closes just by
    way of an experiment.

The TPS is more to do with rate of change in the angle of the throttle
plate, which the ECU uses to control an "accelerator pump" pump type
of action. The main load sensor is the AFM or MAP sensor. As to why
the engine hesitates at 3500 rpm ?? Maybe the TPS has crud inside or
a damaged track ? AFM flap binding ?

Well I have had a slight win with this. I checked a couple of spare throttle bodies I had. Funny enough both had the e2-idl changing over at 0.15mm rather than the manual setting of 0.35mm.

So I set mine the same and wow. What a difference it has made. It is heaps smoother on opening the throttle. Crawling is a non issue now and the flatspot at md revs is almost gone. Still there intermitantly though but not everytime now.

I think I might leave it like thise. Really cbf'd anymore
    Very odd.
