    Default Mx62 Cressida

    Hi,
Just bought a mx62 Cressida one owner with very little rust as far as I can see!!
Would really like to swap the engine for something with a little more power, car is auto.
Will probably shoot a coat of paint over the top, leave the interior, lower it and a sleeper.

    Any ideas of transplant options?
    Brake upgrades?

Car in NSW and will be registered,,,,😯😯

Any xJZ engine is a good option if you ask me (I.e. 2JZGTE tho 1JZGTE VVTi might be easier for the turbo dump to clear the the steering box...). 7MGTE is another option...

For front brakes I'd suggest changing to xA6x (I.e SA63, RA60, RA65) struts and then you can do the skyline brake upgrade.

For the rear I'd look at changing the whole rear diff, maybe go hilux...finding an E series LSD isn't easy I don't believe.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the reply.
Don't know whether to keep running gear standard and do suspension, rims and paint, keep everything else standard,,
This way less hassles with police and rego.
Found abit of rust but really solid for age and as people say, only original once!!!

its big fat old barge-you can wack pretty much any engine in it without the dramas of a tiny sprinter/celica engine bay.
simplest would be a 7m or 7mgte for power, should bolt in, everything else requires varying degrees of custom work.

my vote is for lowered over rims with some doofdoof gear and enjoy without stuffing it or your bank balance. dont try polishing turds.
If you must drive a polished turd get a pre-polished lump because shit is cheap and no-one else wants to buy it.

Wouldn't call it a Turd, but everyone has their own opinion.
Decided to keep running gear stock and just improve ride height and paint.
Old lady I bought it off was original owner with a folder of receipts and paperwork.
Love the old velour interior and stereo...
Will make into a nice old cruiser, rims might be a problem though!!

Sorry-Instead of the word "turd" insert "classically styled jap cruiser totally unsuited to dealing with high power engines and corners".
    my apologies

    To add some constructive info

This is what an MX62 with Front: Kings MA61 Low KTFL-31 (SA63 struts with MA61 top spring hats and MX62 strut tops), Rear: Kings Corona ST / RT Low LTRL-25 springs look like installed...

Also FYI, for my 2cents... I don't see how a MX62 differs that much from say an MA61, bar the (lets be honest!) crappy IRS in the MA61, the rack and pinion vs steering box (which is a +ve for the MA61), a few doors and of course the looks .

And if we compare to say an xA2x, then sure it's got an extra set of doors and weighs a small amount more, but it comes with electric everything and room for a decent engine (i.e. 7MGTE or xJZ) without moving the firewall / creating a lead tipped arrow is my thoughts

I'm sure if someone started using one as a tofu delivery vehicle for example then they would be super popular

I'm not sure what information you are basing your following comment on "totally unsuited to dealing with high power engines"?...

    Cheers

    Thanks Wilbo,
I know their not the most popular car however I like to stand out from the crowd so I will see how it looks when done.
Found receipts that motor was reconditioned only 50k ago so will fix body and paint for now.
In picture rear of car looks nice height, is that using Corona springs , looking around to get some 50 mm lowered springs, however people only seem to do 30-35mm,,,
    Will keep looking

Yes. The picture that I posted was showing Kings Corona ST / RT Low LTRL-25.

If I recall I thought the spring rate was on the soft side, but the height looked OK.

Don't worry about what people think about these they are a top car.I had one for 5yrs and it done me well.I Makita lowered mine and it handled fairly well.I actually wrecked the car and the original 5ME that was in it had done around 400 0000k's had been flogged previous to me and was still a runner when I wrecked it.I did notice that it had a water mark on the block just under the exhaust manifold which never showed any dribbles of water but it did use about a top tank of water every month or so.So when I pulled the motor out to put into another project I did notice that a bit of the headgasket at the rear below the back welch plug was missing and a slight bit of water,on inspection after taking the head off the headgasket which looked to be the factory one was non existent in quite a few places but that engine never overheated or gave any problem from the time I had it so to me they are a top car.
    Cheers Brett.
