If you need to ask you're out of your league on that one... sorry.

Just to elaborate a bit, ST165 to 205 GT4 have transverse mounted engines and gearbox. and 2JZs are straight 6 so it'll never fit between the strut tower, even if the bolt pattern was right or you made an adapter plate, physically it's impossible. If you want to have an AWD TA23 with a 2JZ the only option you have is to go through all the fab that Jaffa went through Link to build thread But with a 2JZ instead of a 1UZ. You could also convert the TA23 to accept the transversly mounted drivetrain from the GT4 (the opposite has been done : mounting a 1UZ longitudinal into an ST185 Link here again but I don't really see the point in doing that...

And like I said, one thing for sure : you'll never have a 2JZ in front of a GT4 tranny inside a running car, just won't happen.

if you have a spare 50 grand then you will be able to half finish it

there is a 1uz that is a 4wd so maybe find that model and maybe use a 1uz
the sump has the 4wd bits in it
its probably the cheapest way around it

also go look at the front strut assembly from a 4wd gtr and you will see what you are trying to do is
stick a 20 inch round circle into a 4 inch square

So what exactly is your ultimate aim for this car?....(drag car / track car / daily driver).....your proposed build would probably be good for the drag strip but not much else. The weight and physical size of these components would only lend itself to straight line speed in a TA23.

I could go on but unless you have significant mechanical knowledge, a large disposable bank balance and access to a wide variety of machine shops and engineers to assist then you should just go buy a Nissans Skyline GTR if you want a turbo straight 6 4wd.

I'd suggest you send Jamie a PM to get an idea of the amount of work (and knowledge, and time, and money) that went into his project, then work out whether you might be stretching a little bit too far.

You'd really only do this if you wanted something unique & special, and time & money weren't really an issue. Even with a lot of smarts and the knowledge to do most of the work yourself, this will still be an EXPENSIVE project. If most of the work is out of your league (like it would be for the vast majority of people) it'll be a very, very expensive project.

Otherwise, as suggested, just buy an r32-r34 GTR - you could buy any of them cheaper than this project.

I have merged the two threads into one.

Umar, when having discussions like this in the future can you please keep it to one thread. Cross posting in many threads pisses people off as it clutters up the forums. It also makes it difficult for people to follow your progress later on as they have to chop and change between many threads.

Everyone else, please keep it civil. If you have constructive criticism by all means air it. If you're just going to crap on about how students cant do shit I suggest you read this thread instead of posting here.

    Cheers,
    Chris

thanka allot guys i really appreciate your help and silly rabbit i want to use it as a everday car, i understand theres allot of work involved , i spoke to sajid Mughal from jap performance parts and he said that this would be a waist of time he said if i was to make it four wheel drive i should use a Subaru impretza engine and running gear so i am not sure atm, im thinking of just restoring my ta23 gt with the original engine with the body modifications such as my bodykit and alloy wheels and leaving the mechanical side original for nw. i think i will do some research and put something together. money isn't the issue i just want to make something different and special, because of my disability i need power steering do you guys know of any power steerings that will fit my celica?? Rodney im really sorry its just that i am first time user of this website and i am bit confused. sorry it wont happen again but once again thanks to all you guys really appreciate your comments and help

Not a problem, everyone was new here at one point.

If it's a genuine GT, then I wouldn't hack it, you will drop it's value. If you want to go the modification route, you are better off selling the GT, buying an LT, and using the left over money to go towards the mods. Otherwise look at restoring the GT in original style.

    Chris

yhh Chris its a genuine gt but value doesn't bother me because I will never sell it. I just want to do something different I want all the original gt interior and everything except I am adding a front spoiler side skirts boot spoiler and a rear spoiler that fits under the chrome bumper and I am having my whole quarter and wing cut and flared out i.e welding, iv ordered 17 inch deep dish wheels from image. I am going to build a one off piece I can guarantee you that. thanks allot slip way I will look into that . Chris what's really disappointed me is the increase in value of these cars its crazy my dad said when he was my age he used to buy them for like 500 to 800 pounds. guys has any one got a rear louver for the ta23 celica???

    Now that's the go slipway!

Umar66 that unholy marriage would be the result of handing the GTR gearbox & a JZ bell housing to a machine shop - or being a machinist oneself! Much better than subie gear if you are deadset on such a swap.
