Anyone b able to help?
Hello all,
I have a ST183 Celica with a 4th Gen 3SGTE swap off a 1999 Caldina ST215. I have recently completed the swap, but facing a problem with the idling when I turn on the AC. I cant seem to get the idling up when the AC is turned on.
My questions:
1. Is the idling "with AC on" directly controlled by the ECU? If yes, what should I check and how to get it fixed?
2. I have noted from an ECU diagram that there is a pinout named AC demand. Any suggestions on what this wire should connect to?
3. (Off topic): Wht would be the right Denso plugs (and gap) for the 4th Gen 3SGTE?
Would really appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Russel.

I have no idea about the 3S ECU but generally there are two pins on the ECU for AC. One goes to the button on the HVAC console. The other to the compressor clutch relay which in turn powers up the magnetic clutch on the pulley.
I think this is how my car works: (I can't really confirm since the LED in the button has a bad connection and barely works. I don't pay attention to it anyway.)
Push AC button. (fan running, set to cooling)
The little indicator LED comes on when the AC is on. (ECU engages AC clutch, idle goes up a little bit/change in exhaust note before clutch engages.)
The LED goes off when I stomp it/get to high RPM. (ECU disengages AC clutch)
The engine might have a separate idle up solenoid that is on the same circuit as the AC clutch or it might use the IACV to control the idle. Never had to deal with idle ups and AC on toyotas so I don't know.
Either way doesn't sound like you've wired the AC circuit completely.
What's the idle normally
3sgtes always have issues with throttle bodies getting very dirty
Remove it and clean it
Clean the feed pipe to the idle motor too
Remove idle motor and make sure it's not stuck
Just do a big check over and clean of the throttlebody
This is an issue that a few of us have encountered when putting the later model 3s' into earlier toyotas (eg beams in to sv21, gen3 3sge into st162). AndyTTR outlines the problem pretty well in this post here

I also had that issue with my swap and what I was planning to do was wire in a relay to trigger when the a/c kicked in, which would then activate a vsv which would be plumbed into spare vacuum nipple on my intake plenum (post TB). But before I got around to it I got rid of the car.
