means there is an error code in the ecu and u should find how to extract the codes
could be heaps of things wrong
if it starts and stops when u stop cranking its probably only running on the cost start injector
I just rebuilt my 91 Soarer . The car ran fine for 3 days and this afternoon when I tried to start it ... No good. The engine fires when you turn the key to start but as soon as I release the key to the run position the engine dies! I've checked the fuses and all seem ok, I don't know a lot about auto electrics so any ideas would be appreciated.
Just an update the car started this morning but cuts out as soon as you put it in drive. Now the dash says engine electrical system error in Japanese . Has anybody had the same problem?

I'll do that but the damn thing is running properly now till you try to move it, I did find a wire of the AC clutch disconnected, you recon that would be enough to generate that error?
Ok, the car is still doing the same thing .... Idles and runs up the rev range smoothly, it will do this in park and neutral but as soon as you put it in drive or reverse the computer shuts the engine down. I tried a scan tool on the rectangular port located on the top of the engine and couldn't get a fault code to show, could this be a tranny problem even though its coming up on the dash as an engine electrical?
make sure both earths are on back of each head
When I put the engine back together there was a double earth on the left hand head but on the right hand head I could only see a fine earth wire that ran from the back of the firewall to the right hand head, have I missed something?
I just spent a couple of hours digging around the back of the motor trying to find an earth lead but no good, any idea where the RH head leads come from?
I have found the problem, my computer is shagged. Every day it generates different codes! The f...ng thing! Does anybody have one they want to part with?
what ecu have u got pic
Gonna pull it out tomorrow morn so no pic as yet. It's uzz31, if that helps, if not send you a pic tomorrow.
ok cool I sold my last soarer ecu afew months ago
but they are starting to fail more these days
I've only got Celsius early and late 1yz ecus
Now I've got a new problem! I put the new ecu in and everything worked fine I ran it around for a couple of days to make sure before I took it on a long run. I stopped at a servo to buy a drink and the motor wouldn't start, it would crank but wouldn't fire. The dash indicator kept throughing up alternator not charging in Japanese . For 2 hours I tried but no good. I trailered the car 100ks back home and left it over night. The next day the bloody thing started normally, I ran a diagnostic with the t1-e1 ports connected and no codes, the engine and gearbox both came back ok. I tried a scan tool on it but it wouldn't read because the program for the sc400 only went back as far as 92 models an mine is a 91. Also the cat over heat light sometimes comes on at start up but disappears a couple of minutes later. My friend the mechanic says that it's a 70 percent chance that the crank sensor is the problem but can't be sure. Anybody got any ideas?
ive had soarers where the efi relay get bad connections over time
so u need to check when it doesn't start does the check engine light come on
when it doesn't start does the check engine light turn on
I very rarely see a crank sensor go
Funny u say that because I was thinking the same way. The problem is intermittent so it's a bastard to Check. I think I'll replace it anyway. I take it a generic job from the parts places will work?
Where's the relay located?
