I'd be willing to bet the 2.4L RT142 Corona of the same era has the same transmission, and it definitely does have the same engine.
Hey,
Along with the RA65 2.4L Celica, which other cars came out with a A40D Auto transmission. I am trying to source one, but I want to know what other cars had these boxes so I can make it a little easier for myself.
Also, which engines would be a direct bolt in to replace the old 2.4L in the RA65. It is an 1985 model too.....
Thanks

not a whole lot will "bolt-in" to the ra65 (well, nothing better than the 22r-e). There are engines that can fit fairly easily (in the grand scheme of engine conversions), but you've gotta ask yourself what you want out of the car, and what your budget is![]()
Not real sure but the 6cyl A340 used behind 5M-E's may fit with a bellhousing swap.
I may be wrong.
Cheers Brett.
5M-E's had A43D's to my knowledge. Not A340'sOriginally Posted by crowncustom
I'm with Norbie, look at RT142 Corona's.

My MX 62 Cressie has an A340 auto in it.The A43 for memory is the early 3spd auto used in the MK 2 Coronas, early Crowns and MX 32 Cressida. But the MX 62 has definitely got an A340 in it.Even the MS112 Crown runs an A340.
Cheers Brett.
MX73's series 1 have A43DL's. Series 2 MX73's have A43DE's. MX62's use the A43D from memory or could be A40D. MS112 have a A40D, A42D or A43D too.Originally Posted by crowncustom
MX83's and later use the bigger A340E. All are 4 speeds.
yeah, mx62 is a A43D, the later models mx62's also had the overdrive too. are the A43's a possible swap for the A40?
beer me!
I am wondering the same question. Can the A43 swap with the A40?? I want to make it as easy as I can, both for fitting and sourcing.... I need one either in Newcastle or sydney.....or near by....
