Unless the pump is putting out too much pressure, that is very unlikely, fuel pump problems only happen at high load/speed when there is inadequate flow. If it can get anywhere near redline 3rd gear without failing,
engine loosing power & dropping to an erratic rpm until backing off the throttle & the pump can fill up the carb/s again and that symptom repeats, then the fuel pump is fine, don't assume or touch it.
    What's the compression.
If you don't know anything about carburetors, then don't assume, don't do anything there until you know that the compression, ignition system, cam & ignition timing are OK. Then it's time to synchronize them.
Before taking apart something that you don't know anything about in HOPES of a cure.
    Good luck.

That carby was running good when i pulled it out.

My 18RG cost ~$3500 after the purchase cost. Just because the motor is free doesn't really change much. Once you buy pistons, clutch, fuel pump, air filters, extractors and get some machining done with new rings/bearings ect the cost adds up very fast.

Stick with the stock engine if you're on a budget - we can get it running right no doubt. We can put the kit through the spare carb and retune it with my colortune. Sunday?

I had one of those square fuel pump things, I don't recommend them...

Don't cheap out, get a good quality rotary fuel pump, they kick ass. You can get them for carbies, not just EFI, they pump about 7 PSI, so just put a fuel regulator in there. They never give up and they are heaps quite... The square ones have a loud ticking noise, Similar to loose tappets, when you turn the car on. It's really annoying >___> Well for me anyways... That and my square one gave up after only 250km's, I got a refund.

The fuel pump, regulator, etc makes sense Once i sort out that the carby is fine i'll look at the fuel pump.

I'm only running the a40 transmission though? haha
I've got most of the bits for a conversion though

Doesn't sound like the pump then
I haven't had it compression tested, ignition system bar coil has recently been replaced, and cam and ignition timing adjusted and checked (by somebody that knows what they're doing)
    Cheers for the input

And balls haha. The 18RG would be a long term project i'd work on when i have the skills, tools and time available
That would be sick. I've got some bloody make up exams Monday, Wednesday and Monday week. So i'll text you about sunday if that's alright? Would the following Sunday suit by any chance? Monday Week's exam is one i'm not worried about.
