4A to W Series bellhousing

The large 225mm GZE flywheel. The one where the clutch fits inside the flywheel to some degree.

Its a custom Extreme ctutches pressure plate with 6 puck ceramic plate ( sprung centre)

Thanks Tiger I have a 225mm setup at home in the garage on the shelf but my Dellow bellhousing required A LOT of work (grinding) just to fit the 200mm clutch So the 225mm is no chance.

The Niteparts bellhousing might be on my list of things to get I think

Hah, my dad said you were "as happy as a dog eating hot guts" or something like that. I'm happy as hell that my bellhousing finally arrived too, just a bit annoyed that it was the 3rd day of an overseas 15 day expedition, meaning I don't get to see shiney for another 2 weeks or so. Meh.

Just a question: What are people doing about sandwich plates and starter motors? I'm still in Malaysia, obviously, but my dad's looked at the housing and reckons that the starter motor buldge is on the opposite side, hencing making the sandwich plate incorrect too. Has my dad stuffed up, or what's the deal? For the record, I'm attempting to attach it to an AE101 4AGZE block with standard accessories, turbo manifold and RWD intake plennum.

My memory is fuzzy, but I believe you can use one from a suitable FWD A powered car and just add an extra cover at the bottom to fill the gap left when used in RWD. The Nite Parts ones are built to suit jap spec I believe and Aus spec mounts on the opposite side.

Ah, the bellhousing uses the standard RWD or FWD starter from almost 4AGE (unsure on 20v). The starter which you would have on your bellhousing Pugzor would be from an FWD E58 box which is at the intake side, and has a different bolt pattern to the exhaust side starters.
I believe that the only reason that the 4AGZE has the intake side starter is that because its a bit more tricky to fit the exhaust side starter in with the FWD exhaust manifold and all the ancillaries on the exhaust side too.

As for sandwich plates, you can either use a FWD one with the bottom inspection plate (apart from the GZE of course) or you can use a RWD one without the inspection plate.

P.s. Jap spec or Aus spec doesnt matter, the starters are mounted on different sides due to the different boxes and ancillaries attached.

So basically... I need a RWD starter motor and I need to either modify the sandwich plate, or just get a RWD one? Damn FWD 'GZEs.

Yeah, the clutch actuation was on the opposite side on the JDM AE86 because they had the crossflow (4AGE) engine as standard rather than the 4AC.

I would actually reccomend you get yourself a local AE92 smallport 4age starter and sandwich plate rather than the RWD ones, the AE92 has a reduction starter wheras the RWDs were direct drive.
Plus they are easier to find.

Then if you didnt want to find a sandwich plate from another car, just make one out of flat sheet of 1-2mm steel. Thats what i did.
