shinny, were the autos traumatics or a jap spec auto?
Sorry, I should say why wouldn't a traumatic FIT - whether it WORKS is another matter!

Traumatics... Listen to the racket they make!
Did these AE71 trimatics have a detachable bellhousing?
Hmmm. I got the auto out of a Ae71 and it is a Aisin box not a trimatic. Forgot about the 6 Vs 8 bolt pattern tho so now I have to hunt down an Age flexplate![]()
doing the same to my car got the auto out of a ae71 and it bolts straight up even the flexplate the only thing im hunting for now is a 8 bolt auto flywheel also the tail shafts are the same length as the five speed but the auto yok is alot bigger
FYI, on an auto, the flywheel is called a flexplate.
Depends if it was AMI or import AE7#. The sedans were made here, the others made offshore. Only local build copped the Trimatic / Borg Warner combo.Originally Posted by allmtr

if the flywheel is called a flexplate then what do you call the flexplate?
an "auto flywheel" is called the flexplate. the flywheel is what the clutch bolts onto on manual cars
yes all A motors had the a40 not trimatics
Dave
and I'm assuming the A40 will take no power![]()
Any standard 4AC auto box will take no power definelty not the power needed for a 10sec run. You will need a custom bellhousing and a different box however they will weigh heaps and the cost of setting this up will definetly blow you over your 5k budget.
I just bought an auto AE71 and the bloody thing sounds like its going to spit some gears every time it changes to second,i dont know why this is happaning. but untill i pull my finger out and drop the 5sp in is there anything i can do to stop it.
P.S. when i change to man, auto free to good home
if it still works
