    Default 4age RWD auto???

Man, I know I'm gonna get "search" but stuffed if I can find anything

What auto do I need to run if I run a 4age in RWD format? What car are they out of? Are they a electronic box or old school?

    thanx for any/all help

You'd have a couple of choices for a box - either use one from a Jap car, such as AE85 auto, (there might have been an AA63 or AT141 auto?), or use a Traumatic from a local AE71. You don't get much more old school than the traumatic...

Anyway, you'd need to alter the flex plate to suit the 8 bolt crankshaft, but I can't see why the rest of it wouldn't fit. You'd probably also want to work on the shift points etc. a little bit, and if you use the traumatic, knowing how grumpy they are about vacuum changes (e.g. cam changes), it'd probably need some playing with to be at all happy with a 4AG.

Yeah, although you should be able to score a later 4AG auto box fairly cheaply, as many engines come with them attached and not many people actually use them.

um not wanting to rain on your parade, but if you're thinking of putting an engine like that into an absolute waste of space that handles WORSE than a stock, Ke30(1975) corolla with original springs and shocks, I think you're going to be disappointed.

I think the best option would be to sell the Festiva for whatever you can and pick up an AE92 that already has a twincam in it.

Seriously. I've driven Festivas. They reminded me of my Ke30 but worse. I can forgive a 30yo car, but when I drove that Festiva it wasnt that old.

Getting a 15yo Toyota with a sporty-handling+engine combo will be HUGELY better than even the best of Festivas and a Toyota engine. Not to mention cheaper.

    Pro's of an AE92 are :
    Cheaper than conversion
Better overall car (regardless of the age difference)
Slightly larger - more practical perhaps
    better tuned suspension as standard
Packaged with the engine you want already
    Nicer looking car.

Now I hate Festivas more than most shitboxes on the road, so I am incredibly biased. I have my reasons. Lets just say I think the car has a massive blind spot that's nearly caused Festiva drivers to kill me.

Regardless of that, do the math on a conversion, double it, and then look at the price of a rolla.

Or consider a Starlet GT - baby turbo on a 1.3L gocart. Hard to beat.

Some pics i saved whilst surfing the yahoo, doesn't everyone do this when they are bored???
A full auto kit for a AE86!!! 8 bolt flex plate, looks to be a 4 speeder, i can't see the dipstick, so it's not complete

Check out the guys 'drift' enhanced handbrake

I sat a ae92 4age flex plate on a ae71 auto once, it looked to be a good fit. Just one of those "i wonder if......" moments. About 2 seconds of serious thought and the idea was shelved.

Pfft, c'mon people, there's no harm putting other engines in 'crap' cars! It's one of the fun points in life...
(ssshhh, don't tell anyone, but I was actually at the wreckers yesterday, measuring tape in hand, in the Box Magna aisle...)

Also, an auto 4AG would have a place if you wanted to use one with a big turbo for a drag car.

allmtr, don't do it because you think it'll be cheap or easy, but do it just to annoy those that say you can't!

Also, not all FWD Corolla boxes are created equal - ones that belong to crap engines have crap ratios!

use a 20v flexplate. plenty of auto 20v floating around
a traumatic won't work due to the bellhousing being different so an adapter would be required
find an ae70 csx in auto and use that?
fwiw i looked into this some years ago.

anyone know if the auto box from an ae71 cs is the same length as the 5 speed ae71 t50? or would you need to look at custom length tailshaft to do this conversion?

Why wouldn't a traumatic work? If it came from behind a 4AC, apart from the crank bolt holes issue, what else would be stopping it?
