ive been told that the a40 auto can hold between 200 to 250 rear wheel horsepower as they were used in some 6 cylinders as well
I googled for some information on the ae85 autos, seems they ran an "A42DL" trans. Looks like some of the cressidas ran these as well.
Maybe it would be worth finding out if the bellhousings are interchangeable from the A40 to the A42DL and have the benifit of a 4spd auto?
Then theres the fact that the cressida version would probably be a bit grumpy in regards to shift points etc if placed behind a 4 cylinder.
And it may not have been available in the Aus market anyway.
Food for thought![]()

I could use the detachable housing off the A40 and use the 'glide I have. Just have to spin up a plate to adapt the two. I might see how much the A40 will take hehehe
I'll email MV autos and see what he thinks...
Any progress?

OHHH... the Champion Toyota page seems to mention availability on some Camry's.... (flexplate), but in searches I was NOT able to find the same part number for Camry's.....
Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
my s/c auto aw11 has a a241e transmission, it's the same as what the v6 camry uses. plus celica, rav4 and a few other toyota cars, possible to have the same flex plate......
Wasn't there an AE71 fitted with 4age and auto in the for sale section recently? was a project/ drift car ... ask that guy!
Guys just an update here, I've been running an A40 behind a 20V silvertop 4AGE in my offroad suzuki sierra. It runs 34" tyres and diff locks and super low gearing. 100km/h on the road is around 5000rpm!
Anyway i had the auto fully rebuilt and the 1st and 2nd accumulators shimmed for a snappier gear change and this part worked really well. Gear changes were hard but not unbearable.
Anyway pretty much ever since day 1 with my setup the auto was slipping, the clutch packs physciaaly didn't have enough bite in them even brand new to handle the rpm changes and the power transfer. After about a year and a good 20 trips under my belt 1st is slipping badly and 3rd is flaring at 100km/h.
I looked around for upgraded clutch packs but no one seems to do them. Right now i'll probably whack in another second hand gearbox to get me through winter and investigate in the meantime a better option. The KE70 had a trimatic, these can be built to handle the power according to my auto guy. Also looking at some other options. If i find anything useful i will post up. I have another guy who may potentially be making up an adapter to fit a 4age block to a G16 suzuki bellhousing pattern, the Vitara's came out with both AW4 (A340LE i think) and also a trimatic. things like torque converters and other stuff will be sorted as we go.
A manual isn't really an option as the autos are sooo much better for crawling work its not funny.
i'm currently getting a ford c4 auto built and modded to work behind my bt 20v turbo.so far the conversion is going smoothly
the converter is a custom tce one,an adapter plate is being made for the bellhousing. we are looking for 500+rwhp.
If anyone needs an 4age 8 bolt flex plate and/or a torque converter I have one here I took off a smallport import motor.
