just fit a tip tronic kit to it

    much easier

you should not have any probs if u have the std ecu wired up and

the microtech just piggy backed to run just injectors and timing

    i did a lt12 on a 1j in a cressida on friday

i recon the shift box might be faulty especially if u shorted some wires out like

i think u said earlier in post

but before u do anything u have to make sure no wires fgrom the solenoids go back

    to the std ecu

or take it to a proffessional

    it will be less stressful

I don't think the shift box is faulty as I pulled it off and tested it on a battery with the inputs and it is outputting 12v to each solenoid as it should be.

The solenoid wires do not go back to the std ecu, they have been chopped as has the converter lock up.

So you are saying that you split the crank and cam angle sensors between the stock ecu and the microtech and didn't manualise the auto at all? What other sensors does the stock ecu need?

    Thanks

Ok I have done some testing and found that the signal input wires can be used as the 12v input wire.

I put the GND in and I put the D input signal wire in and low and behold the 12v input wire has 12v and solenoid B has 12v so that means that I have to cut power to the D input signal as well as the 12v signal when I hit the OD to totally cut power to the shift box and get it into 4th.

So does the above diagram make sense? I think it will. Do you agree?

    Thanks

WOOHOO! The second relay worked its magic.

When I hit the OD button it turns off the D input signal and the 12v input and it goes into 4th as there is NO POWER at all in the shift box.

For some reason it is holding 4v in solenoid B on the change from 2nd to 1st so what happens is.

Put it into 1st and it is actually in 2nd. Hit the OD button and it goes to first. Hit it again and it stays in 1st as there is no voltage on solenoid B. Shift to 2nd, goes into 2nd, shift to D goes to 3rd, hit the OD button and goes into 4th.

I was going to attempt to fix the 1st gear thing except that because of my 4.6:1 diff ratio the only time I ever use 1st is for racing. 1st gear at 7000ish rpm is about 60ks so it really doesn't go anywhere. I can get up very large hills in 2nd easily.

The other thing is that it doesn't shift down into 1st very smoothly because it basically wants to be stopped to do that. So it is a bit of a failsafe as I don't actually want it to shift down into first very often.

I think I will put a LED inline with the OD switch so it is easy to see if it is on or off. If I was to leave OD on and shift L,2,D it would go 1,3,4 and that is what Sean said fried his box so don't want to do that.

BTW I have edited post 1 so that people can see easily how to do it. I hope no one has to have as many issues as I did.

    ok

    sounds somethign similar to mine

i have to have od off

click 1st, then second then 3rd. then i push the od button change to neutral then back to third and i have od.

if i have od button on i go to 1st i have 1st when i click to second i actually have 3rd gear then when i click third gear i actually have overdrive.

Yep, mine is the same if I have OD on.

So you can't click OD on in D and get it into 4th? I can do that without putting in Nuetral.

glad to hear you have it sorted chris..

I'm thinking about going one of those whiz-bang programmable shift computers, but ive just realised that maybe the computer will still try and shift, and do the whole retard-timing on shift thing, but it won't be shifting at that point anymore.. unless i turn down my multiplier i guess..

    Suprastick?

They are $395US. Apparently work great though. A guy on sf.com just fitted one to a 1j converted sc300.

Doesn’t the suprastick work like a sender bender? So that the stock ecu would still know exactly when the gears are being changed but they are just not at the normal rpm?

Heh.. the curse of the protection diodes on signal inputs

What is probably happening is that internally there is a diode from the D (and other inputs) to the 12V supply. This is done in order to protect the internal circuitry if the voltage on D (and inputs) goes way above the 12V power supply - the diode will then try to shunt this extra voltage down to the power supply, protecting whatever is inside that's reading the D (and inputs) voltage. You could try shift if into 2 and see if the 12V comes back up (and you should get a ~0.6V difference between D (or 2) and the 12V in this configuration).

Some ecus have a similar effect in that you can start and run them without the plug that has the power supplies on it because of protection devices that leak power to the internal power supply (something to be aware of when you install an immobiliser..).

What intrigues me is that the manufacturer should know this and shouldn't give advice that has no chance of working... The more I read about this unit, the more it seems like a completely unengineered and under developed solution - at least from an EE perspective...

Good to know you have got it mostly working, and worked out work arounds for what doesn't

    Thanks for the explanation

AFAIK Sean aka MS75 was the person who wrote the wiring diagram. I think the wiring diagram needs to be extended to how to include the relays to shut off D and 12v input when the od is switched.

I don’t think the maker of these shift boxes has helped with the wiring at all. Mike from MV knows a bit about them but he doesn’t make them.

Next time I think I should just get an old school Turbo 400 or similar

for abit more than the mv box i can supply a tip tronic setup

much less hassle than wiring in an mv box

i hope to get my unit running in my car when i get back from brissy
