Al, Rolla has put it as blunt as you can get. He's right mate, you need to look at the bigger picture. If you listened to every bit of advice on the internet it will end up costing you more than just biting the bullet and paying a qualified mechanic to do it for you. You don't need to find a 7M specific mechanic, just a compitent one.

If you go stuffing around fixing banjo bolts that may or may not be leaking, cam seals that have no effect on the engine smoke, then find out your engine is blown, you're down time and money that could have been spent elsewhere.

There is a heater hose right at the back of the head on a 7mge so I'm assuming the turbo model will have the same hose. Its not real easy to see where it joins the head but that could have a pin hole leak??? Sometimes a heater hose will get soft and leak right against the hose clamp.

If it is only slowly leaking the car will drive fine until it finally looses enough water to cause overheating.

Man I would LOVE TO. IM EVEN WILLING TO PAY A DECENT AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR A KNOWLEDGEABLE EYE TO TAKE A LOOK. Unfortunately it seems like Sydney is full of wanker mechanics that have no idea about the 7m and all ask in excess of $500 to take a look at anything... and they dont know anything about these engines. They just throw parts at it hoping it goes away and racking up my bill. If someone can PLEASE point me to a reputable 80's toyota mechanic in Sydney.

yes but surely there must be SOME mechanic out there not afraid of the 7m. It may be a 7m but it is only an 80's engine after all. I dont mind paying slightly inflated prices. But ~$500 to simply take a look is taking advantage.

Mate, I think you might be the one talking up the woes of the 7M.......... sure it has a history, but mechanics aren't afraid of them, they're probably more afraid of you with your aloof hopes of "cheap" repair without any time taken to diagnose the issues. If the way you talk to them is anything like the way you talk on forums, i'm sure they'd consider you to be a tyre-kicking dreamer, and price the job accordingly - cause they don't wanna deal with the BS.

At the end of the day, its just a common twin-cam 4 cycle combustion engine, its not mythical or magical, any mechanic worth a buck or two can logically work through the symptoms and find the fault.

Bite the bullet mate who ever machined your head used a hand File to "machine" the head maybe lol. What your experiencing is typical 7M BHG issues. White smoke could be from turbo leaking into exhaust housing if you know how to use some spanners and sockets remove the 4 bolts and back the dump away and feel around for oil my 1JZ with its crappy twins had this problem!!!

But wait theres more under the intake manifold towards the rear there is 2 hoses for the ISCV antifreeze bulldust that could be leaking!! one connects to intake manifold underneath and one connects to the Heater Bypass tube thingo!! people never change them as to hard to get to and with my old 7M they had turned to jelly!

Your comp readings look fine in the other threads!! check those hoses under the intake manifold. but if you have oil mixing in that could be from reside on th block? If you have time I would remove the intake manifold(can be done under 30mins) and check that also remove turbo side check the turbo also check the torque on the head bolts and give it a good clean!!

yeah I gota check them out , do a pressure test to see if there is any leaks. will probably be replacing all coolant lines anyway , plus the others pipes that people here have recommended I replace. Very worthwhile investment I think.

cool please take photos lol if not give me your 7M and cams(yummy) and ill give you my 1JZ once again nothing wrong with a 7M that has been built properly and hardness tested(this is a MUST) as to many heads have been over heated and people trying to crack eggs and mystical magic liquieds to try and stop the BHG lol once I get my own place ill be buying a 7M to work on and that will be the replacement for my 1J when it carks it!! big single front facing intake manifold with 1J style cam covers
