    ah, the lolz

7m's really are a piece of piss to work on. i can have the head off a running car in 90mins, including stripping it for machining... way too much hate out there!

your first post said coolant dripping on the ground: if its dripping from the overflow bottle, BHG. if its dripping from anywhere else, simple water leak -trace it back and fix it. if you are chasing constant water leaks/blowing off hoses, BHG.

i paid $4200 for a manual JZA70 cut YEARS ago.

    they're much, much cheaper now.

    so ummm... do that?

failing that, the only thing you can do to 100% cure 7M woes is a can full of petrol and a match all over the engine bay.

    stand back and admire.

Does this mean you are going to go ahead with your leakdown test now?

i love the way most people treat/diagnose 7m's

"zomg the electric windows dont work.... must be BHG.... need to rip it out and do engine conversion"

Mate, blown heater hoses are a common symptom of BHGs and can in fact also be the cause of BHGs.

I would definitely do proper coolant & compression tests, as if there's a problem it won't be a cheap fix but it will be a LOT cheaper to do it now rather than once it gets worse.

That is only because it's true.

It has been a while since I checked but I'm fairly sure coolant runs through the electric window circuit.

its only really a bhg symptom if it literally blows the hose off its fitting and dumps all the water everywhere (ive had the bottom rad hose do this once).... small leaks not so much

it WILL lead to a bhg if you dont fix it -it will either run out of water or develop an airlock.... good cooling system maintenance if vital on 7m's but any engine really -run anything without water and you will kill it.

yeah coolant problem sorted out , checked and cleaned all hoses , no leaks anywhere now. Just the white smoke problem , hope leak down test reveals more...have to wait to see..

Whats so fascinating about the cams (or do you have a lump fetish? )? I checked the specs (they are NOT TRD and NOT 288's...heck they not even 272's. Biggest in that brand for 7M-GTE is a 255ex and a 264in...hardly remarkable, probably why it will still run (just) on the stock ECU!)

The cams also aren't 12mm lift, you can see in the pics the area around the bucket hasn't had a groove cut into it like you need to do with big lift camshafts

TRD did make 288 camshafts, they just didn't sell them and Toda did make even bigger duration camshafts years ago, at least 304IIRD and bigger lift but either way what he has in his car is probably a pair of 272 standard lift Toda cams

a guy on tc.net has had some monsters, a couple of sets over 300deg from memory

ive got a chance to get some toda 264's cheap, im thinking about getting them just to see how far i can push the regrind theory (assuming they can get more out of these than stock ones). im seeing my cam bloke tomorrow so ill ask the question...

what size turbo are you running?
Not quite sure what you mean by regrind theory but I can share my experience with going to HKS 264 8.1 cams when running a CT-26 with 57mm comp wheel and clipped exhaust wheel, there was a huge loss in midrange, even after we spent some time changing cam timing on the dyno, peak power was the same but it did maintain it past the point where the stock cams nose over.

Overall if I wasn't going to a larger turbo I would have taken them out

I should add my head was not ported so that may be a contributing factor to my bad experience but my tuner mentioned he has seen the same thing on other motors the cams were just too big for the turbo

Lift is more important when it comes to cams but sadly the hardest to accomodate

Relax a bit dude... you are experiencing reliability issues and i merely offered a light hearted tongue in cheek solution that may provide an increased level of reliability when compared to your current situation.

As for the A70 thread, you might recall i suspected you may have had a BHG to begin with, and politely indicated so. I also suggested perhaps you get the car checked out by a mechanic as we on the internet can only offer suggestions of where to look, we cant truely diagnose or fix the problem. What you choose to do with those suggestions are entirely up to you, however when you ignore them, yet continue to ask the same questions, ones online patience begins to run a little thin.

pfft turbo wheels... i play with GE's, so cam size is only limited by how fast i want to turn the motor.

280x8.5 is the max i can get out of stock cams with a regrind, im hoping that by starting with a larger lobe we can get a bit more out of it.
