well im stuffed. after topping the car up with water it was fine for a couple of days, then went for a short spin today and it got near the red again on the gauge (standard hilux gauge) so i pulled over but i could still hold my hand on the top of the motor comfortably. got home a minute or two later and turned the car off and it was boiling but i could still put my hand on the valve cover. the rad was hot but not overly so. i thought it may be the thermostat but after pulling off the thermostat cover (a pain in the ass when the motor runs north south and the thermostat housing is in a prick of a spot) and there was no t stat in there. hopefully supercheap will have one to fit (can anyone tell me if other models will fit ie camry??) so now im thinking the radiator may be partially blocked. the heater core was only recenlty hooked back up by myself after being disconnected for god knows how long so it may have delivered some of its rusty goodness in to the rad???
is there anyway to flush you radiator at home?
    or any other ideas?
    cheers

ok, i noticed on your thermostat housing there isn't a thermofan switch? mine is there on my gen2 3sgte. how are your thermofan/s controlled in your hilux?this might be something to do with your problem, but i'm sure it was running fine at some stage before this.

In addition to getting your radiator flushed I wonder if your water pump is moving any water.

Maybe you can reach the pump fins with your finger through the thermostat housing opening.

I posted a thread hopefully which might help you out. Search for "Overheating problems" and good luck. Not everything is covered there but maybe eventually it will be.
