carbs and manifold have shorter runners, the carby manifold will run a bit cooler and has proper velocity stacks.

interesting. late 86 early 87 is when the 7 rib was phased in, could be you got a bitsa from the factory? it's been known to happen with models where the changeover ones had a bit of series 1 and series 2 components, not hard to stretch that to engines...

Either way the toyota EPC shows the part number for the crank is the same for all 7 rib blocks (bigport, smallport, silvertop, blacktop etc) so unless you happen to be especially lucky, as OST seems to be here, then you can generally take it as a pretty decent rule of thumb to follow.

I know, just pointing out that you could get most of the benefits of going to carbs whilst still keeping the best bits of EFI, and probably with less hassle and cost too

Oh and it was the original engine... you see it had the VIN tag riveted to the block

Oh... silvertop pistons are pretty crappy overall, pop a set of smallport pistons in, do a bit of porting, cut the head about .020"(1/2mm) and you are good to go....
Thanks bro for the advice.. i'll take note of that .020"(1/2mm).. problem now is sourcing out for sp piston set and also will i still be using my stock crank assembly?

Besides if you have a bigport none of this stuff would fit as it has a different crank
no wondering why my XTD stage3 clutch kit wont fit with the stock 16v BP flywheel. but it say's in the package that it's for 1.6 1994 corolla

    here's the actual image:

so with the blacktop or silvertop flywheel, this clutch will fit in? as well as with the stock 4AC tranny?

Feb 1987 was the build date. I no longer own that car... and even if I did, that was the original engine... I swapped it out for a silvertop, with 16V high comp pistons, a mild set of cams and the rest was rwd AFM TVIS. I had her for over 10 years. Anyway, the original engine was sold off as my wife and I decided to move west. So my original 7 rib with 40/18 internals is somewhere on the east coast of the USA

it will be slower pretty much everywhere compared to a good efi setup with ITBs and ram tubes etc

celicaJZ: that's probably for a 212mm flywheel when you have a 200mm. A smallport or 20v flywheel is what I am guessing you need. Measure the diameter of the friction surface
