I have heard of ppl using 1zz cranks in 4age's. Do monkey wrench racing offer one?
Hey all,
Back to my endless harebrained schemes (what I am best at according to various women.. lol) - 9age scheme. Mainly just food for thought that I may one day do.
I need someone to measure a few things for me on a 1zz-fe crank (needs to be accurate, there would only be ~0.75mm differences that I need to detect/find):
- spacing of the main journals (I am wondering if it is the same as the bores? Which are closer then the bore spacing of the A series).
- Length of the counterweights and their width
- Size of the main and con rod journals length wise
- Actually what would be ideal would be the distance of each journal from say the start of the pump drive and each journals length.
- Can I get a photo of the oil pump drive? Please?
I'd be worried mainly about the bore spacing, and while you could offset bore the cylinders (new diameter = 82mm) it would thin the inner walls the same amount as if you bored it out 3.5mm (I think? Worked it out a while ago) in diameter. Wondering if you could grind the con rod journals so the spacing is the same, or if there's enough room on the journal for it not to matter etc. Also for various dimensions for it to fit in the block and not just internet pictures taken by some random. Lol. Oh and the problem of the oil pump drive - but I suppose you could always get that welded and reground.
/Diabolic plans
If noone has one/could be bothered, i'll just source one from the wreckers and give it a go myself sometime/in the far future.

bore spacing is meant to be the same
I can personally confirm a 87.5mm A series bore spacing, as for the ZZ I don't know
yeah from what i've heard they have the same bore spacing, but the counterweights dont fit and need some basic machining. but i haven't put a 1zz crank into a 4a/7a block to confirm.
SHEPPO..
Measured my 4age currently in pieces, got 87.5mm as well, sweet, I do believe 1zzfe crank idea would be ideal, ofc custom pistons would be the biggest expense.
Do a google search.
I think you will find its able to be fitted. I have been told that what ppl in IPRA are using to make their 7age out to almost 2 litres.
There is missinformation everywhere, its very hard to sort facts from actual truths with this kind of things, because most people are just speculating, and the people who actually do it want to keep how a secret :/. Looking at photos of one particular 2.0l 7age (9age) I think your right.
I guess I should of put it that a well known builder definately uses that method. Of course I can't speak for everyone.
I think I remember where I saw the test fitment pics now, it was on the 9000rpm.net forums.
Also couldn't stock pistons be used just with shorter rods? what have a crap rod to stroke ratio
