With any engine it all comes down to trial and error. If money's no object give it a whirl.

After reading this thread with interest, and having both PRB compisite body and numerous 4AGE engined cars , some points to ponder.
1, you dont need 9000 rpm to have fun in a clubman sports, mine is 20v with ford type 9 close ratio g/box, haltech ecu. like a big go kart.
0 to 100 in under 5 secs try that in a normal car (read normal)

2 ,This 4age was built in 2001 and has been thrashed by 25 year old son since ,93rwkw at dyno day 9, last run at JEM with 92rwkw, you need to following.
20v oil pump, chev rod bolts on 100kw (ae92) rods plus peened
forged pistons, dont even try std toyota pistons
good oil cooler, fair dinkum extractors (trd or same) 4/2/1
crank angle sensor from gze with coil packs,
quads need 45 mm at least so will need to go for black top or after market,
head needs to be cleaned up a fair bit in the ports etc,
cams are new camtech billets , think they are 293 with 8mm lift and still using std lifter.
std valve size, springs are of the trd vareity with new retainers
comp ratio allows it to use mobil synergy 8000.
yea and still in 3 rib block.
only thing he does on a regular basis is change oil every 4000 k and let motor warm up throughly before driving.

Are you saying that this engine has 293 deg cams / 8mm of lift and quad throttles and has only made 93 rwkw?????????????????????????????

yes and I am being fair dinkum about the kws, brothers 4age nearly the same but with 304s and running on a cocktail as a rally car only has 103kw, so maybe a little reality has come to 4age h.p.,remember that the factory only ever had in group a with tubular exhaust 205hp at the flywheel.

a stock as a rock fwd 100kw gives around the 58kw at the wheels so 98 is pretty good for the money spent! from there it cost a lot of money to take it up and cost a lot for every extra 10kw. a race 7age will give you 170hp-220hp at the wheels depending on your budget and this is keeping them in there comfort zone and lasting a season before they get to tired.
my advice for those that want big horsepower atmo out of a 1.6-1.9litre with out spending a fortune, is to go to a dyno that is renowned for reading high. lol

Im all for reality BELIEVE ME!!! there is nothing i hate more than people who quote over the top figures and cant back it up with the proof !!!!!!!!!!

It makes all the people who spend the countless $$$$$$$$$$ look like their cars are nothing.

its just that my mates old car was a stock bigport with abit of a clean up head wise , extractors and an old school haltech and it made 87rwkw on the dyno.

I find it interesting because my 4AGE with stock bottom end, quads, and 308*s has 129rwhp. Albeit through a Quaife box (less loss theoretically).

Thats on a reputable dyno in shootout mode with very very very very conservative tune (it was in the middle of tuning). The ECU spat the dummy before we could get a final tune into it, but the power curve was gaining significantly more power in the top end with the exhaust cam retarded slightly. Probably 135hp at the end of the day i would think.

Yeah i think thats the point. TAKAI has a basicly std bottom end with cams not all the other stuff done .

    I could be wrong?

yep i was talking stock exhaust aswell! a head clean up and good exhaust will net you a bit!

depends on the dyno aswell ! can make a diffrence . and if he is in far north queensland the humidty and heat will make a diffrence. funny thing is, sometimes the test equipment that cost the less can be the most acurate{ seat of the pants}.

Good point about the heat and humidity!
At those sorts of power levels the heat can make a big dent in the outcome!

Like i said believe me when i say i know how hard it is to make real power !! and 100rwkw is deff nothing to sneeze at.

Mabe that motor was just a freak! (or it was the dyno but it was a dyno dynamics dyno)

were we are at the moment , about the limit of development before the cash starts to climb, my next motor is under way and the head (b/port) alone is nearly $3000, o/s valves etc 320 and 312 cams titanium this and that ,so if we go back to the start of the thread then 9000 is good but at how much $$$$$$.
As for having such a motor in a clubman, a waste of cash, std 20v is enough to have lots of fun with ,

i got a bt 20v in a sprinter... 9000 limiter, generally not reved past 8500, but has seen 9000 on many occasions (track work). makes 105.2kw@8200 at the wheels in dynodynamics shootout mode (matched stock 2zz and b18c on recent dynoday). very similar mods to the ones quoted in original post. basically stock parts shotpenned and balanced. ported head etc. 288/292 cams 9mm lift. cam gears. still very streetable engine, just a bit on the loud side.
The engines done 15,000km so far since rebuild... still very strong... Engine built by JHH in brisbane.
