original ecu in it still?
Hi all, hoping someone on here might be able to point me in the right direction regarding a problem I'm having with a 20v silver top.
We have just purchased an AE101 Apex GT Levin for my nephews first car. It runs fine as far as it doesn't miss or knock or any thing however after driving it for a while I remember my old 16v motors being much more lively.
I started to investigate and here is where my question arrives. I pulled the plugs and the motor is running very lean. The previous owner put the current motor in which has been rebuilt however I have no idea what was done to it.
Things I have checked:
- Cam and Ignition Timing
- Compression (200psi even over all 4)
- Replaced Fuel filter and Tank strainer
- Fuel pump voltage
- Air leaks post AFM
Everything seems in perfect order but the motor still appears flat and unresponsive from 3 too 6 thousand RPM after that it seems to pull OK but not what I would expect. I thought before I went any further with this problem any further I would consult the wise heads on this forum.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have searched every 4age page I could find and came up with nothing regarding them running lean.
original ecu in it still?
Yes unfortunately, I'm pretty sharp with aftermarket ecu's but factory stuff gives me a migraine just looking at it. I have it booked in to Toyota tomorrow to have it run up on their analysis tool. Hopefully that will shed some light on the situation. My money is on a dodgy AFM or fuel pressure reg at this point.
sometimes the contacts where the 'trap door' runs along can become dirty or even wear, this causes rough/flat spots etc...
the following plug in, and run perfectly, and are bigger...
ST185 GT4
VDV10 (3VZ-FE)
i would also check to see if the VVT pully is engaging/disengaging correctly
Cheers for the info. Hopefully the scan comes back with some useful error codes.
