I think Wayno had enough NOS in there to blow himself up. Period.

Alex is generally pretty cool as long as you look in control but im not so sure he would be ok with full-on drifting ie. linking corners thru the whole circuit, and yeah sliding on to the grass is a no-no because the Speeddome poeple dont appreciate it

With No Limits you just become a member for $15, then you can get your CAMS L2S (just involves filling in a form and paying) and then youre good to go. I doubt we could organise a TECCWA night through them as we wouldnt have enough entries to make it viable so it would just be a pick a night and turn up deal.

For first-timers an instructor is mandatory so you get taught the right lines/braking points, etc before you go out by yourself

The season has just finished for winter so the next night is not until late September, though there is a hill climb coming up later this month (which ive entered

I dunno, I've seen some vids on youtube from midvale where people seem fairly sideways through the whole thing. Whether it was their last run before getting booted or not I couldn't say

    TECCWA Motorsport

    Hi,

As Clint commented in a previous post, we're trying to organise motorsport events for TECCWA members, and others, on a number of fronts.

A key goal is to actually hold our own events, probably as a series, with an event each month or thereabouts. This is where we're hoping to run Motorkhanas, the Reasonably Priced Car runs, etc. There are a number of things to be considered in order to do this. Firstly, depending on the location, we need either CAMS, AASA or equivalent insurance cover. Each of these has different requirements, costs and features.

For example, some tracks/venues require CAMS. However, if we run our own events at other locations, there is no requirement to use CAMS. For example, AASA would also provide us with the ability to run our own events at suitable venues. And there can be significant cost savings, which end-up reflected in the cost to participate.

Each of these have costs associated, which are reflected in the type of event and, in the case of CAMS, potentially club affiliation.

We can also organise events through 3rd parties, as we did last Sunday, where we make use of venues and organisation of someone else to run the event. This is also effective and lets us try various venues and styles of events, without trying to do it all ourselves. The difference is that costs and benefits to the club may not be as good.

We also need to consider the type/s of events people want to do.

For example, some people want to do Barbagello. It can be hired as a venue, or events organised by others there. But the cost and requirements such as CAMS licenses, memberships, etc. are more significant than for a Motorkhana.

Some people prefer something a little less full-on and expensive, and that may be where Motorkhana-style events are more suitable. Ideally, we'd like to move to having such events as timed events so it's not just about making smoke. Although, there's nothing to stop people doing that if that's their main objective.

We're currently considering using AASA for our own event series, which is cheaper than CAMS and doesn't require participants to have a license for Motorkhana-style events. This all keeps the costs down.

If however, there are enough people who want to do more full-on events and/or feel they want CAMS licenses for other reasons, we can consider that. However, while we're building membership, we need to be careful how we best make use of club funds to provide motorsport events.

Feel free to send me comments/suggestions, or offers of assistance, if you want to help steer TECCWA's direction here.

    Good points Gene.

I would personally love to see a series of timed events run.. either on a monthly basis or whatever.. having said that, i have no illusions of my car being fast at such events, as its set of for slip rather than grip.. hence i will most likely be the one making smoke

my suggestion of Barbagello was not necessarily to hold a full on event, but to get some TECCWA members who want to try it out to attend a tuning day.. Basically using the clubs social aspect to help people who want to give it a crack to go down together (that just sounded wrong).. a safety in numbers sorta thing...

i know its not for everyone, but it is great fun... i can honestly say you can learn more about car control and driving fast from 1 outing at Wannaz than almost anything else..

I personally wouldnt go to a No Limits day as your first event.. instead try a mid week tuning session.. there are usually less cars and its more laid back..

official or not, i would be happy to put my hand up to be contacted if anyone is keen on a wannaz day.

It might be handy to know how many TECCWA members already have a CAMS/AASA license, to get an idea. An i agree with you guys, TBH i find skidpan stuff a little boring if theres no timing involved which is often the case at AHG/RAC events

Won't they provide timing if you request it (or was that pay for it?), that's what I was told. I can't see how it can be much less boring if the track you're running on is interesting.

In the past we have just used a volunteer with a stopwatch and a pad.

not to the millisecond accurate, but good enough.. +2sec for each traffic cone hit and +5 sec for rolling the finish.

For the record, i have both CAMS and WASCC membership..

I did change to a less aggressive Motec map later in the day as I may have some oil pressure issues to sort out.

I've uploaded the footage of the incident if people would like to see the replay:

    Hey Gene,
I would love to help, but I'm not sure if family and work comitments will allow. I have some Idea's on timed events, like "TECCWA Trophy" as such, a yearly hillclimb/sprint type event. or a 3-4 round series at the few smaller race parks around town (Midvale, RAC, Collie etc)

for those curious to know more about these types of events as what already being run and where etc. head over to clubracer.net.au
I will be hoping to have my car sorted for the 2nd round of the rally sprint series
