Fuel system questions??

good day to all. I am shoe horning a 1uz into my ra23. my question is,

1: is it legal to put the fuel pump (bosch) in the boot of a car?
2: where does the fuel filter go, before or after the pump?
3: can i use braided hose under the car, or must it be solid line?

sorry if i sound stuuuuupid, but i need to do this right to get it engineered.

1st, ask your engineer. if pump is in boot and you don7t have the right lines, you will likely get fuel smell. why not under the car with suitable protection?

high pressure filter goes after the pump (to protect the injectors). intank pump usually has strainer on it. can use low pressur efilter befor ethe bosch is needed.

doesn7t have to be solid line, but solid is stronger and cheaper...

You need to use solid line under the car. I think it is no more than 750mm total non solid. Its not legal to have it in you boot(in qld anyway), you just need to hide it well , and where you want the fuel filter is up to you.

Under the car is better for the pump but u can have it in the boot if you box it in and vent it to the outside. Why don't you mount it in the tank would be heaps neater.

Use solid line under the car as said previously as easier to engineer.

Fuel filter after high pressure pump for efi and before lift pump if your running external setup. If internal to tank pump in tank should have a strainer and a high pressure filter outside tank on supply line.

thank you all for the reply's. another question. I want to use the stock fuel tank, but is it ok to take a hole in the side bottom and get someone to weld a nipple on there to supply the pump? or any other ideas?

just use the original fuel feed hole to the motor
then
low pressure lift pump to surge tank to high pressure fuel pump

this would be a bad idea, you'd get terrible fuel surge.

Best setup is a high volume, low pressure pump in-tank, feeding a surge tank, which goes to a high pressure pump outside the boot (I bolted mine to the underside of the boot floor, which made all fuel lines easy to do). Be sure to use proper coated braided lines.
For the hard vs braided.... check what flow the stock hard lines can handle (and what condition they're in) - if it's an unboosted 1uz, you'll probably be ok just using braided for the lifter - surge tank - high pressure pump, then connect the high pressure pump to your stock lines.

Your other option is to just put a high pressure pump in-tank, but I'd bet a decent amount of money that the ra23 tank isn't designed to handle that properly
