Make sure u tighten the FUCK outta the 32MM hub nut when u put them back together. I can't rememeber the specific torque (240-260ft/lb i think) but it's higher than my 1/2" drive torque wrench goes.
Last lot took 2 blokes. 1 Standing on the brakes and the other with a big breaker bar. That nut keeps the front bearing in 1 piece so I have learnt (the hard way)

Driveshaft nut is 186Nm. Its actually less than the 2 bolts holding the hub to the strut.

Ah... I didn't take the brake end apart, I slid the three angle bearing thingie out the gearbox end. So I got a grease covered three angled bearing nuckle like thing rather than the splined axle looking thing...

I pulled the entire hub off the lower control arm...

The tripod is the thing left in the gearbox, thats held in by a circlip. The CV joint is the three bearing thing that is covered in grease. Its no major deal that they've come apart, there is no load in this direction whilst driving so they're not held together strongly. The important thing is that you didn't get any dirt on them whilst they're exposed. Make sure they're properly greased before putting them back together, and that the rubber boot surrounding it is sealing properly, and you'll have no issues.

Ahuh! i might have got some dirt in there, but I certainly did regrease it and put the cover on...

Ah well, if the dirt gets in there and makes them knock and that's my only problem then I couldn't care less!!!

ive done 5 motors from the bottom and one from the top , id like to try the top method again as it was only the second time id ever removed an engine i attempted it and now that i have a nice armory of tools it'd be far easier. One thing we all must do when playing cars is to not forget the beers as they make it all better !

well actually , last weekend some of the lads and i decided that drinking 30 + beers and pulling a motor out with some stumps we found in the garden and a jack would be ok , and indeed it was lol

if you separated teh CV joint and got dirt in there, it will not last long before making horrible noises.
A trip to a local brake shop will get you some replacement CV shafts for around $100/ea... or less if you shop around and push for a trade price (they are about $70ea from B&R Brakes, castle hill - Toymods sponsor).

I personally would replace them. Even if you got all the dirt out, completely refilled them with the CORRECT cv joint grease...... you will probably still have failed in getting the rubber boot back on correctly, causing the boot to let go whilst vehicle is in motion, covering EVERYTHING in the local area of the engine bay in that horrible grease. Trust me, that sucks major wang.
