Default auto ecu runing manual car

    hi all
i am as about as smart as a mule when it comes to efi i've been sorting the loom i've just wondered what would happen if i run an auto tranny ecu but the cars a manual ? will it just lean out at higher rpm due to auto shifting at less rpm, will idle be higher or lower due to it being an auto ecu or are they much of a muchness? umm ecu's a 3sge gen 2

    Hey,

I have an "auto" ECU running still, after converting my car to 5spd.
There seems to be differences in drivability as far as i can tell. I get no problems in terms of leaning out at high rpm's...but i do get a rich fuel surge at <1% TPS (idle sw.?) which apparently is supposed to recover the engine when there is a torque converter there
Idle seems to be the same as if it was in D. 700RPM +/- 50. Some people say manual's can idle lower, but i would like it to be a bit higher.
    The only things i had to do to make it all work were;
    1) Jump the NSS (neutral start switch) to make the ECU think its in P or N all the time. Without this, the starter motor/efi won't engage.
    2) Connect my reverse plug from the manual to the NSS loom which, on my car, is where it signals the reverse lights.
Thats all ive done and it all works perfectly. The rich surge is a driveability problem..(and im still not 100% sure what it is, but this is what ive been told), but i can live with it.

EDIT: This is on an OBDI engine, so im not sure if the G2 3SGE is OBDI or II.
    Kind Regards,
    Kurt.

Yea it seems to have this problem on JetspeedCamrys care quite evident.
U can feel the surge when lifting off acceleration,

I don't think this will necessarily be an issue
Gen 2 Ecus would be quite easily obtained though.
The ecu would sort your problems out as they are not that hard to find for a gen 2 3sge,

I very much doubt there was any loom changes.
    I'd suggest trying:

my mate ran his vl turbo 5sp. on a vl turbo auto comp for years! no problems wif it. he reacons it was running a bit rich, but not enough to really worry about it...

by all means, if u can get a manual ecu go for it. but he did it wifout to much damage to anything. well none as yet anyway...
