Default ke70 losing power under load...

    Hey all

i have just bought a ke70 with a std 4k for my girlfriend and it has an interesting issue under load.

the car when under load will suddenly lose power and is accompanied by a sucking sound. It sounds almost like an vacume leak but on a huge scale

these are the things i have tried so far:

initially i thought it was a blocked secondary when i pulled down the carby there were no apparent blockages.

    new leads
    new fuel filter
new fuel (car was not started for 3 months)

has anyone experienced similar problems with their motors?

next on my list to check is:

    adjust carby float level
check point gap (could it be the points degrading?)

the car has excellent compression does not have a blown headgasket/ water oil issues or use oil. timing is factory 8btdc. the car only has 108000km (the real old lady car) and is excellent apart from this issue.

I am after any susgestions as to what i may have missed but at them moment i am leaning towards a fueling issue (car loses power under acelleration and then is fine on light accelleration happens quicker when on a hill or corner)

    thanks for any imput

    Daniel.

Hey Munki I'd be leaning towards points at this stage, my brothers KE35 with a 3K was missing terribly so we checked all the usual things and to our suprise there was no points left they had worn out that bad, in the end the thing wouldn't even run, So make sure they are in good nick, i brought a set from repco for like $15,

could definitely be the points as mentioned above. I had a t18 that died only under load, revved fine until clutch engaged - turned out points were stuffed. A side effect of the crap points was the tacho going spastic at random - read perfect with clean points

Otherwise, check your fuel lines for blockages. The Ke70 I had after the T18 died after heavy fuel use (Highway revs, or heavy uphill acceleration. Revved the engine for a bit and saw that fuel filter went completely empty for a bit, then took ages to fill again. Fuel lines had blockages between the tank and the filter (from crap fuel or sludge in tank) which caused it to run fine under light acceleration, but essentially run out of fuel temporarily under laod. Removed fuel filter and blew compressed air down fuel lines until i heard bubbles in tank, replaced filter, and all fixed!

    hope this helps

[qoute] the car when under load will suddenly lose power and is accompanied by a sucking sound [/quote]

my engine does this when you rev it beyond 7500. completely stock. i put it down to running out of fuel due to stock carby not keeping
sounds like you have a similar issue, only earlier.
i would definitely say its a fueling issue
clear all your fuel lines, double check carby
    reset everything in carby.
    goodluck

Mate had a scuking sound eminating from his 4K before we switched in the 4A.

His was exhaust manifold not sealing properly, ran like dogs balls.

Thanks for all the replies people

the points had the incorrect gap and the points were dead but it was not the problem
i have also got a new air filter and readjusted the idle

the car runs like a dream smoothest k motor i have seen except for this damn problem.

next on the list is the float levels which is always fun without an inspection window of any kind.

i dont think that manifold sealing is the issue because there is no specific engine speed in which the problem occurs the only constant is that it happens under load. However the exhaust system is new...

Thanks again for all the susgestions if anyone can think of something else let me know

    Daniel.

it could be dodgy fuel, i just sold my ke30 like half hour ago but before i got the car it had been sittin for a while, i put my good motor in it and all of a sudden it done the same thing, free revs ok but under load on anything more than half throttle it just died, it could also be the fuel filter full of crap. the vacume advance may also be stuffed!!

hope you find the prob soon as your mrs may not give ya any for buyin a dud!!

    Hi all

just for the record and for people with similar issues i found out what the problem is. The rear muffler had rusted out from the inside and the baffleing was blocking the air flow when the car was under a constant load.

a new muffler and it is running perfect!

a muffler sitting for a long time will absorb moisture and will rust from the inside even if it is new

    thanks

    Daniel.
