Default C52 Vs C56 / checking for LSD w/o dismantling

Hi guys; been thinking of changing my C52 to a C56+LSD. The main reason I guess being that I've heard C56 ratios are better and change quality is nicer (plastic bits on linkages instead of all metal like C52).

I'm not really happy with the shifts in my car but aren't sure if this is due to box type or whether my linkages are knackered; have driven an AE111 BZ-R and change is much nicer, less agricultural. (I know its a 6 speed but I've been told change feel is practically the same btw 5 & 6 speed)

Question: Is the above info re ratios & change quality correct and it really worth doing this?

If sahift quality on C56's is discernably better can't I just buy C56 linkage components and fit them to C52?

Have been quoted 2nd hand C56+LSD = $1200 by an importer; which I think is a bit steep.

Worried that I might pay this money and still have a box past its best with worn internals & LSD. I know my C52 is OK so why not just buy a new KAAZ, Toda etc and know I've got a new LSD?

Thing is I've flung around car a fair bit without getting wheelspin which has got me wondering whether there may be a chance s/one's put an LSD in the C52 previously.

Question: Is there any visual check for an LSD or do I have to partially dismatle the box to confirm this 100%?

    Cheers

You should be able to jack the front of the car up and spin one wheel by hand, if they other wheel spins in the same direction it has an LSD.

Unfortunately, that's not a reliable method. If you have a Helical/Torsen LSD installed, it will act just like an open diff with that test.

could both wheels spin in the opposite directions with one of those diffs?

(just throwing out ideas, dunno all that much about diffs)

Thanks for that guys; already have the box out as clutch shagged itself so it looks like I'll have to dissassemble and check the diff direct.

PS: I have a 200mm Flywheel and want to replace with a lightweight unit; I assume theres no issues changing this to a 212mm flywheel ?- there are more parts available for later version. . . .

PPS: TRD units too bloody expensive, was thinking of getting Toda; any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Ah ok, I tested that on my diff and it worked.
