Default Whats the upgrade path for a 1ggte

Now that the paint is finished i,d like to uprate the engine .
    It,s a phase 1 ga70 supra with a 1 ggte motor .
I,ve put an aftermarket air filter on ...the cat is gutted ...fitted a stainlesscat back exhaust
    and shimmed the wastegates .

I was hoping some one could tell me a definative tuning path for the 1ggte and what power increases could be achieved with such modifications please

Oh and i have used the search button but cant find the details i,m after .

you could get a boost controller and pump it up to say 12 - 13PSI
get an aftermarket intercooler for the front.

thats about it. then u must preserve the engine untill you can afford 1JZ power.

    1. get a boost controller and run stock turbos on 15psi, stock intercooler will handle that...
    OR
    2. go to big single turbo, the 1G should handle 14-15psi with just an intercooler upgrade and no fuel mods...
but if going single turbo you wont get the full benifit's without also getting bigger injectors, computer etc

with bigger injectors, fuel pump, computer, intercooler, big single turbo and running 20psi you should make roughly 220-230kw

so it all just comes down to how much you want to spend

Thanks ...lots of good info ,

Has anyone one here done a single turbo conversion , and if so does it become a lag monster ?

That entirely depends on your single turbo. A Disco Potato (GT28RS) would probably have less lag than the factory twins. A GT30 would have more. Both will outflow the factory jobbies by a lot.

Firstly, get a real cat. They aren't that expensive, a good one will have SFA flow difference to a gutted one, without the massive fine if you get caught.

Secondly, get a dump pipe. You've replaced the back section, the most important bit is the dump. Get a 3" one made off the factory Y-pipe.

Upgrade the intercooler. Don't know about over there but here there are numerous coolers from China that are decent quality and will do a much better job than the factory, that are stupidly cheap.

What boost are you running with the shimmed wastegates? My suggestion would be to buy a decent electronic boost controller. They can bring boost on as fast as possible (good in a heavier car with a 1G) and sorta stop it from tailing off towards redline.

After much stuffing around, personally the biggest problem I see is the tuning on the factory ECU. If you have a look in the for sale items, there is a 1GGTE Sprinter for sale, have a look at his before and after dyno runs with something as simple as an SAFC2. With a bit of tuning you will see big gains.

    Hope that helps.

Depends on the turbo. If you're after power, then the big single is the way to go. There are plenty that have done it before. If your search doesn't return any results, search the old forums as well.

Ever thought about the HKS stroker kit? It's expensive, but it'll increase you torque throughout the entire rev range (including off boost which is quite important in a GA70).

To be honest, as much of a G lover as I am, there is no way i'd bother with the HKS kit. You want a bigger engine, get a 1JZ. They're too cheap not to.

    Same.

    Or just buy a JZA70.

I wouldn't even bother with the big single.

Ditto, the old 1G has nothing under 4000rpm with big single turbo

Depends seriously on the turbo mate.. Mine's big. Way big.. But for me, bigger is always better... It doesn't have to be the case though.

    Too heavy and Mark3.

There is benefit to be had by getting a single turbo with newer technology. The GT28RS and GT2871R will both be capable of smacking the factory CT12's around in power output while offering the same or better response. 200rwkw+ easy, up around the 250rwkw mark with the latter.

Yeah, but it's still a low comp 2.0L off boost trying to drag around a fat car.
