Default Merc 280CE coupe engine conversion..

Ive recently aquired a very good example of a 1975 Mercedes 280CE coupe.

I wanted to go down the 1UZ path but it seems with the little amount of internet research ive done so far, it wont fit due to narrow/high chassis rails (as other ppl had asked the same question). It currently has the factory 2.8 straight six DOHC EFI engine and auto box in it for the moment, but I kind of wanted something more modern/efficient etc.. so I thought about the 2JZGE. Im not interested in having some extreme turbo beast powered Merc, id like something reasonably quick but smooth and hassle free. The Lexus V8 sounded great but I would be more than happy with the 2JZGE as ive driven a manual Supra with one in it and it was okay. Would someone who owns a 2JZ be able to take some rough measurements for me to see if it would fit? Also if anyone has any comments or could think of any other issues I would need to think about re fitting wise.

    Cheers,
    Adam

Have seen and helped with putting a nissan twin turbo v6 into a 76 280 sel, and this fitted between the rails once we converted from steering box to vl commodore rack. This conversion was done using the nissan auto with lots of comodore parts to make it work.

Like all these conversions comes back to measurements to make it work.
p.s. the 280 sel was a real sleeper that really did get up and go.

With a numberplate like that, the JZ conversion would have to be compulsory.

THIS ENGINE AND TRANS IS OUT OF A 1994 CROWN. 1JZ-GE 2.5 6 CYLINDER. WILL MAKE AN EXCELLENT CONVERSION IN A HIACE OR HILUX OR WHAT EVER.
COMES COMPLETE WITH ENGINE, AUTO TRANS, LOOM, COMPUTOR, COIL & IGNITOR, ALT, STARTER, AIR BOX, RADIATOR, FUSE BOX. SHOULD BE ENOUGH THERE TO BE A STRAIGHT FORWARD CONVERSION WITH A BIT OF WIREING WORK. ENGINE LENGTH 630, HEIGHT 730, WIDTH 600, TOTAL WITH TRANS 1500. SUMP IS IN THE MIDDLE.
    Pinched from here -

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...n-63098212.htm so might be aq good starting point but I cant guarantee accuracy of measurements.
