Without knowing anything about the engine I can tell you it's running methanol to make that sort of power... so it's not very relevant to anything you'd build for a street-driven car.Originally Posted by DQIKST
I'm sure they would if you listed what safety and driveline strengthening upgrades you'd do!

as for safety and drive line. the usual hilux diff upgrade and brakes

would you be able to run a delco computer?

Interesting you mentioned methanol and 18rg motors, I was looking thru an old auto trader mag and came across an ad for an18rgu fuelinjected methanol fed motor, producing over 300 hp he says it cost $18500 tobuild and is for sale for just under $9000 ooks like it has a dry sump. I will try and scan it and post it up. It is from NSW Just for curiosity
please do i would mind reading this.

choice of ECU would largely depend on who is going to wire it up, tune it and maintain it.Originally Posted by DQIKST
Delco's do require some specific hardware to tune and change - something more easily programable might be preferable (e.g. haltech, megasquirt, autronic, etc all use laptop for ease of tuning).
What kind of budget did you have in mind for an ECU?

so is it worth getting a custom intel plenum made up or is the stock 18rge plenum good enough??
is it worth going aftermarket cams? or use the earlier model cams?
i know i have to use forged pistons etc..etc.. but wat would be the best compression ratio??
cheers

1980RIP NATHAN BRETT DEAN2007,
heres the motor as requested
Well after a few teething probs the big block RG is up and running. Idles sweet on seq injection and sounds tough as. A few bits and pieces to sort before it's driveable but not far off....1st port of call will be the dyno. Suspect will max out the injectors 1st pull![]()

Can you give a run down on this engine again.Originally Posted by JustenGT8

Karey
All a bit up in the air Karey. It's not a drag engine or simply a dyno queen. Really built to be a strong all round performer and particularly be strong on the street....hence the capacity increase.
Injectors are from a 3TGT so will max out pretty soon. I didn't want the owner to go from a auto 18R with maybe 45rwkw to this at full potential in one hitSo we'll step the grunt up in stages as he gets used to it. Probably go with 13B 510cc/min as they are common and cheap? 7M 460cc/min like i run in my 1UZ are another good option.
I've gone with the big turbo to maintain the flow and hopefully keep the boost right down. Want to run as low as possible to give the desired 200rwkw. Response isn't such as issue as th capacity and relatively high comp ratio helps with both off boost grunt but also spool up.
Might still need to tweek the turbine housing as at 0.84 it might be a shade too large...one of those things, have to run it 1st to be sure....could still surprise

Sounds pretty sweet Justen, I look forward to seeing the results.
FWIW I just bought a set of 780cc injectors for my 18R-GTE. Think they'll be big enough?![]()

Hey guys,
im also hoping to aspire to an 18rgt one day, so far i have collected all the bits i require except for the turbo, have any of you had experience or know of enyone who has had experience with a kkr turbo, cos i have my hopes on one, the kkr 430 to be exact:
http://www.otomoto.com.au/kkrturbo.htm
Im hoping for the turbo bit to be finished by the end of feb or march next year, depending on how much time and money i get over the holidays.
The budget so far is a mild $1500 (goes to show it can be done if ur a tight arsed uni student with tons of time to spend at wreckers) and includes:
-g-series diff with disc brakes and troson lsd (currently being put together)
-pug/hilux/corona front upgrade (currently being put together)
-stock efi manifold (with 22re looms and comp, in pieces)
-turbo manifold T3 flanged
-FMIC and some plumbing
-22re comp an looms
-2 1/2 system (will need to be mofidied once extractors are removed)
also i have been blessed with my older brother peter (who i bought the car off) doing things right when he built the engine with solex 44's. At the time a guy called chris stewart who owns and runs berco (mitchel, ACT) who used to race 18rg's (nowadays he races a mental old holden in the historic cup) and he was the guy who did the majority of the build up. Im told, but havent pulled it apart yet that he effectively did the whole lot:
-bored to 2.2L
-forged high comp pistons, titanium rings
-yamaha ported and polished
-not sure about the flywheel, crank or the rods but it was whatever he was racing at the time, i have to ring him and ask him if he remembers because peter the total DH didn't keep any reciepts![]()
I still need to get:
-after market comp to piggy back on the 22re comp (expensive)
-single piece tailshaft (easy? ta22/corona/hilux?)
-turbo accessories
-cooling accessories
-and many other things that i havent thought of but im sure will find out later
Not sure how much its going to end up being, but by the time the whole car is finished (inlcuding rims, paint, interior, half roll cage) in the year 2010 (when i graduate from eng/law) im sure i would have spent squillions
Any scruitiny or positive critisism would be greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to watch what does and doesn't work with others builds.
Cheers
Craig
Craig,
forget this piggybacking idea on the 22R-E computer!! Please get a stand alone ECU like a microtech or something equally decent to avoid destruction of your engine.
You're also going to need some larger flowing injectors for this engine, and be prepared to go down the path of a crank angle sensor and better ignition system than the stock dissy.
Take your time, and as the parts collection starts becoming more complete, start dummy fitting parts to ensure they will all work together.
...... butt scratcher?!
hey Karl,
is there any reason why i couldnt use standerd efi plenum FMIC small ct26 or T3 BB turbo on a stock RG with a 2 1/4'' exhaust , just for some fun down at the nats,
what would be involved??
