could possibly have been a development engine

at the very least the inspection cover could be rare lol

lol i am hoping for more than a rare insepction cover , hoping to find some forged pistons and stuff in there , cheers Zammo and Witzl for the assist . i will post up when i start to crack that engine open . For now tho its back to putting the old 18rc back in to get it all past regency easier .

one of the other things i noticed is a sensor unit on the sump that the other rg motor doesnt have ?? (temp/pressure??)

the sensor on the sump would be the oil level or oil temp sensor for the gauge on the GT celica that this engine came from.
I had it on one of my 18RGs in the past.... completely useless without the matching gauge.
    ...... butt scratcher?!

yeah the guy i bought the car off was changing it back to EFI from my other 18rgeu engine as the previous owner had put the carbs on this motor , got this from Mark at [email protected]

    " Hi Michael
I've never come across an answer for this either. the marking next to the 18rgeu/2tgeu/3tgte sticker (on the timing chain inspection cover) can vary and is usually printed on. I've always thought it was for the assembly line to identify the car it was destined for or may identify the induction/efi setup associated with the engine, but that's just a guess. For instance the te71 2tgeu with GEX2 marking has a thicker ecu with a sub board inside, which varies from the celica 2tgeu ecu with a single circuit board.
I'll check to see what's printed on the 18rgeu head i have at my shed out of curiousity. I think the only people that could answer this with certainty is someone that's worked on producing them.
If you find an answer i'd be interested to know
    cheers

if it were a trd engine then you'd find parts with trd stamped on it like the cams, pistons and valves. the cams would have it on the end where the pulley bolts onto or on the hex part where the 88270 is possibly. and you'd either have to pull the head off or get a bore scope down the spark plug to see inside the chamber for piston/valve markings.
I'm doubting the theory that the GTE has anything to do with TRD as someone could've easily upgraded to TRD parts after manufacture.

No chance sorry mate. Internals will same as as any other GU

My increasingly vague memory of all things 18RG would just have this engining coming from one of the GT variants...Celica, carina, corona that had one. Nothing special about any of those engines really. There are no truly 'hot' factory 18rgs.

TTE (not TRD) did the 16v 152E....but pretty well nothing from that engine is found on the street variants.

I realize this it the gte reference manual and I've not read through all 53 pages yet, But...
Is there anybody who has supercharged their 18rg?
I have a plan to run 45DCOEs draw through a supercharger off a 2.3 liter v6 mazda eunos with e85
Obviously i'm going to need a bigger fuel pump and to rejet the carbs.
Are there any other mods you can think of I might need to consider to get this off the ground?

    Cheers, Peter

Peter - the BLUEWIRE RA40 celica has an 18RGZE. It's running 18RGEU EFI hardware with an SC14 and a microtech if I recall correctly. Might be a good place to start.
